From time to time you guys may know me as advocating the 3oz maintenance dose as it has worked well in my vehicles. One such vehicle is on a prolonged diet as I want to see if the maintenance dose will keep the engine clean over its life without any further cleanings.

Today something happened that I cannot explain, yet it all makes sense.

I have a Saturn which received a full clean/rinse phase at the 36K mark when I bought it. At 40K it received M1 5-30 diet, at 50K it received Amsoil 3k diet. No difference between the oils, yet today it hit me that I did not use the 3oz maintenance dose. So I add in auto-rx in precise measurement and take off for the store, 51k miles on the odometer. Right from the get go I noticed a much smoother idle, much better acceleration, and more torque in the lower RPM range. WOW, I do not recall anyone here mentioning that when using the 3oz maintenance dosage that their engine would run much smoother. The difference was so great that it could not go unnoticed, this is not my mind playing tricks on me as I got to drive the car for 2 years through all seasons.

This can probably be explained by the extra lubrication that AUTO-RX provides, thus causing less friction, less drag, which in turn bumps the horsepower and the engine seems more responsive. Great product Frank!

Let me share with you what Terry wrote in another thread:

ziggy, The same oil that works well in the cold, humid or dry winter months. Your high mileage engine really could care less about the ambient weather, IF proper cleanliness, tune, and upkeep is maintained and will assist with weather variations stresses.

A reasonably good quality 10w30 SM oil with 3 -5 ounces Auto-RX is a good regimen for you without seeing a lubricant analysis.

I did not know that Auto-RX was a lubricant. I though it just cleaned inside the engine where ever oil goes as a slow gentle process.

One thing I've wondered with ARX used as a maintenance dose with respect to (some?) synthetic oils- there is a component in some synoils that helps the oil cling to metal- does ARX counteract it? Perhaps not but I am nonetheless quite curious.

Incidentally, I have noticed similar increased "pep" using ARX as well. Great stuff.

You have already cleaned the oil lubricated rotating parts. Maintenace amount of Auto-Rx will work with synthetic oil as
3 ounce plan is to keep an already clean engine "clean" and
keep gains consistent (compression-combustion) did you know you will never have to clean your engine again ?

Imagine if an engine oil company bought Franks patent and included it premixed in their oil!

"Did you know you will never have to clean your engine again ?" Now that is slogan worthy!

Apparently Frank has been approached by one or more oil companies but the amount of ARX they wanted to use as an additive was insufficient.

Thank you for the response Frank. My 28 or so bottles of ARX should yield approximately 112 maintenance doses. Great stuff. Good to know it works well with synthetic oil- I am now wondering if there's a superadditive (synergistic) effect with ARX and synthetic oils with respect to friction reduction...? The engine does seem significantly "happier" with the Auto-Rx in the crankcase...

Likely not, as long as you don't abuse the dino oils intended life. Extending the dino drain from 3000 miles to 4000 miles is likely. Or you can run the maintenance dose with dino every 3000 miles and keep things real clean with dino.

There are a couple of tests on the RX site, where the maintenance dose was run with synthetic oil for extended drains. One was in a Passat and the other in an Explorer. One was with P Platinum and the other M1. Both showed significant reduction in wear metals. Pretty impressive.
