Seems like Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40 is rarely talked about here. Is there a reason someone should be running Delo or Rotella instead of Delvac 1300? Thanks.

Between the three, I'd let price point and availability be the guiding factor. Delvac, Delo and Rotella are all that good. The minute differences in chemistry might likely skew a used oil analysis after changing brands, but as far as protection goes, they're all top performers.

The red-headed step-child award goes to Tection Extra (Castrol). You rarely ever see or hear of it. I found a smokin' deal on some last year; 3 gallons for $24. I personally have had good experiences with it.

And if you want to talk about the white whale of diesel oils, I just saw that Coastal now has its CJ-4 forumation out, and it was priced at $7.74/gallon at my local AAP! I percieve that many people shy away from Coastal, as they consider it to be inferior, but I don't know that's a fair shadow to cast. I don't even recall seeing a Coastal HDEO used oil analysis.

Hi,
I just commented on this product in the Thread on Delvac 1 5W-40 (and Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck) you may find that Thread of interest too

Delvac 1300 15w40 is one of the very best "mixed fleet" HDEOs around - at any price

Buster recently posted the Delvac synthetic brochure. Delvac syn fleet brochure

It's sad that we do not see how Delvac 1300 and Delvac 1 ESP compare in a CJ-4 engine test. For Delvac 1, the only results published are those from the Cummins ISB valve train wear as well as the sequence IIIG oxidative thickening test. They share a little more of their Delvac 1300 testing, but unfortunately different tests.

Anyone having CJ-4 engine test results to post?

I just bought 12 more gallons to go with the 12 I bought last Spring. I lucked into a killer deal both times. A local store had the oil on sale for $8.99 a gallon both times.

$5.99 per gallon after rebate is a smoking deal.
