Delvac 1....safe for gas engines?

I have 2 diesel trucks and 2 gas autos. If Mobil Delvac 1 was more readily available, I would run it in all 4 engines. In my opinion it is a top oil and I would choose it any day over Mobil 1. My own opinion...... Another oil that is not talked about alot, but a top dino is Delvac 1300 Super with the new ratings.
Also on the subject of diesel oil in a gasser the Amsoil Series 3000 HDD, 5W30, is a top choice. Not cheap, and just pick up the phone to order. Try to find Delvac I. I've seen it in truck stops for $23-26 a gallon, and I can get the Amsoil for that under the Preferred Customer Program.
I use Shell Rotella T in one truck, Delo 400 in another, 0W30 Amsoil syn in one car, and Castrol dino in another car. So I am not plugging Amsoil or Delvac, I feel they are good products, gas or diesel.

Up here in Canada our Walmarts carry the Delvac 1, but it's $36 for a 4L jug! As a comparison, a 5L jug of Mobil 1 is $25.40 and a 5L jug of Maxlife is $12.98.

I you look at the specs of Amsoil 10w40 the viscosity is very similar for a lot cheaper.

Though I feel it is kind of heavy for a gasser. It could be done though, especially if you live in one of the warmer climates or have cars with older engine. Since 1980's era.

Dr. T, it is gas rated and exceeds SL Mobil told me. I use it recently in a Subaru and Mazd turbo. Very good oil particularly the additive package. I drained it from the Subaru yesterday after 800km's with Auto-Rx in it, and it looks like thick black treacle. Very detergent oil I think. Generally accepted as one of the best oils around, a different thing altogether from std M1. Don't think I'd use it in very cold climate though IMHO.

I know we've brought this up before, but I'll post again...

Is Delvac 1 safe to use for gas engines since it is a Commercial/Diesel intended engine oil? Will it do harm if used short or long term? Is it fair to even compare it to a gas engine oil?

Why wouldn't you use it in a cold climate? With a -65F pour point it's better than Mobil 1 5w30 now! (which used to have a -65 pour point, but SuperSyn is now -54)

Because you can do better with other lubes.

You have to look at the CCS viscosity. This is the cold crank similator and measured at various temps depending on the lube.

the 10w40 is measured at -20C and its 2614 cP (Centipoise)
Whereas the 5w30 is measured at -25C and its 2555 cP.
Another thing you want to look at for cold temps is the borderline pump temp. Big difference with thinner lubes.

You think that's bad...my owners manual specs out 15-50 for use in any temps. from -20 to +30 C. Using a 5-30 is only recommended in the rance of -40 to +5 C. Guess that throws out using 5-30....
