Delco, Wix, Other, Filter of Air Deciding

Ahoy,

Poked around. Absorbed opinions. Borg-like. Assimilated. No futile resistance encountered.

Searched BITOG. Found older groovy thread giving test results for filtration abilites per sundry air filters.

Data 2+ years old. Still relevant???

A/C Delco air filters sounded good. Really good.

Air filter for 2004 Chevy 4800 cc V8 engine.

There's a standard and heavy duty version available from A/C Delco. Cost is in the $25-$30 range. Limited availability in the cultural backwater.

Wix offers a filter for around $18. Unable to ascertain if the Wix offering is equivelent to the heavy duty or standard A/C Delco filter.

Wondering if any gathered hereabouts believe the A/C Delco filter is worth the extra cost.

And, is the heavy duty version of the A/C really needed? It's what came with the truck due to having the towing package.

Or, can equivelent filtering be obtained from the Wix costing less?

Is the Delco's extra cost frivolous and only enriches the yellow running dog imperialist capitalist-roaders as mentioned by Chairman Mao or is it a case of getting whatcha' pay for?

Research provided no definitive answers. Open to comments, suggestions, hints, tips, experiences or general lambasting of a cootish nature.

What's the aforementioned 4800cc V8 installed in? Have you considered an EaA? Nod in the negative and then affirmative and perhaps a EaA123 may fit for a cod lifting 36 jambones.

I believe the standard and heavy duty are actually different sized filters for the same application so you need whatever your vehicle has currently.

The HD filter is known as High Capacity filter in the GM info. Its basically the same size but had thicker media for higher dirt holding capacity. It does not filter any better per say. Its used in vehicles/engines for towing, off-roading etc.

If you use you vehicle for any of these uses, stick with the HD filter. If on the other hand you don't care or are concerned with money, the standard fitler will fit and work OK. Depending on the brand, they may or may not be any difference between the standard and HD versions. Some may just make the HD version and package in both and vice-versa. Also, the aftermarket brands labeled as HD may not be the same size but filter as well or better than oem due to different in media. So physical size is not a good indicator of how well the filter filters. But we all know most are impressed with size and assume bigger has got to be better.

I have been using the Amsoil EaA123 in my 04 Z71 which came with the high capacity filter.
