Decision makers?

when i started riding in 1971, my friends and i started out on whatever was cheapest and available that would run, being impoverished students back then. my choice of machinery was developed over time by what i was technically interested in, my ability to service/maintain it, and of course, what i could afford.

i chose english bikes, and when i was able to afford my first new bike, i bought an hd lowrider sport, coz it appeared to be the closest thing to a new bonnie or commando, neither of which was still available. a new fatboy followed in 1992, prolly THE BEST BIKE I HAVE EVER OWNED IN MY LIFE. i still have it as my main ride

motorcycling to me become a "lifestyle"

to some relative newcomers in the middle aged bracket, motorcycling has become a "lifestyle accessory", and it is a fashion faux pas not to been seen on the right bike

ohhhhh, if only gucci made scoots

Sorry if this seems negative, but what's the deal with people asking what motorcycles to buy or oil to use? If you can't even decide what kind of motorcycle to buy, you don't have enough experience to own one, you'll just become a statistic. Most bike riders learned to ride on whatever M/C was available and developed their tastes from experience. Same with oil: use some and develop your own experience and then ask questions. Trouble in America is too many wanabees, or followers and too few leaders and decision-makers. Just like our politicians: won't make a decision or a statement without consulting advisors. Opinions about what M/C to buy are like posteriors, everyone has one!!

boonie john, so what's the local oil of choice rumor for an aircooled hd in the oz heat? Also areyou one of those guys I used to see in ozbike magazines, LOL! used to a kick out of reading those when my bud would send them to me. Those tatto'd wildebeest women, and the politically incorrect stories. lmao

hi m8, i use a local diesel oil (PENRITE) in my fatboy

about .12 % zinc, 20w60 range, temps from 10 - 43 *C (50 - 110 *F ) depending on season, change every 3-5000 kilometres

PS, no tattoos, but lots of fun along the way. and yes, there was a picture of me riding on my hurricane at the "city of sails" bike show in auckland, nz, featured in "streetbike" magazine many years ago

I'm thinking of getting a new motorcycle but I'm not asking anyone what is best.....in fact I'm having a total stranger drop me off at a dealership I have never been to...blindfolded...with earplugs

And be sure and take a blank signed check to pay for it. Just hand 'em the check.

LOL.......exactly!!! LMAO....

Look, you people have to have the security of everyone telling you what to buy so you don't have to feel bad about your decision, that is why so many people own Harleys, their "buddy" tells them they have to buy one. That is why they pay $20000 for an overweight, overpriced, underpowered, old-tech motorcycle. #@$%!, right after they buy their Harley, they dump $5000 into performance accessories to make it have the power it should have had stock. Yeah, keep asking questions first and buying second, you'll buy one of those "great" bikes. Most guys I know that race motorcycles aren't sitting around asking which bike is fastest (best) cause they already know from EXPERIENCE....hello?

most guys that race bikes, especially Novice Class, based their decision on what magazines said....they do NOT have the experience....

Yeah...whatever. I've spent exactly ZERO dollars on performance accessories for my Harley. Bone stock it has all the power I will ever need.

Yeah, big 68 horsepower and 800 pounds is more than enough for parades, poker runs, and profiling. Oops, I forgot polishing and posing!! Whaja got in that thang, a TWIN CAM, I mean Hemi!! HaHa

I get tired of all the anti-domestic stuff too. I think it's a good thing to ask questions about which bike to buy. There are a lot of folks here who know a lot more than me.
