Drained Mobil 1 5W-20 and filled with Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 last weekend. The Pennzoil Platinum seems to make the engine idle a little smoother so far. I also used a PureOne oil filter, which I purchased at my local AA (PL14610 I think).
First Impressions:
The filter has a reddish/orange sealing ring that is slightly dark. The sealing ring was clean, but at first glance I thought that it was dirty.
The steel center tube does not extend all the way down to the bottom of the oil filter. There is ~1/4" of open area below the center tube where one can see the filter media.
Gently shaking the filter produces a sound that something is moving back and forth inside the filter's housing. Could this be the relief valve's spring?
What an ugly paint job...Yuck! I know, I am splitting hairs on this one.
Anyway, only used oil analysis will tell how this filter performs. I do like the EAO13 better in terms of quality and feel. I know that the PurOne is less than 1/2 the cost of the EAO, but it is considered to be a "Top Shelf" filter as well. As I stated before, used oil analysis will drive my filter selection, but Amsoil has done a good job with the EAO line.
