Hi,

Im thinking of buying a backpack leaf blower. My first thought is Stihl, but Id not be opposed to Echo (already own a handheld which is great), Redmax, Shinadawa (sp), etc.

Since its a backpack, Id also not be opposed to 4 stroke or quieter variants.

But question is, do stihl dealers drop prices? A google search indicates mixed results.

What about other brands?

Thanks!

I bought my Toro mower from a dealer that also sells Stihl. I bought at the end of the season, and they were very eager to move the summer inventory to make room for the winter inventory. Timing is everything.

You may get a $30 off but that's a stretch and that would be the dealer eating some or all of that.

Get the BR600 and mix with their Ultra oil @50:1. If you want more power, then get the big Redmax which is owned now by Husky I believe but with quite a bit more heft.

I love my 600 and so glad I caved and bought one.

This spring I bought a handheld Stihl handheld blower/vac and it has more power and was $50 less expensive than the comparable Echo. The dealer we bought it from is large and sells a bunch of different homeowner lawn and also farmer equipment, and said they are actually getting out of the Echo business because their quality has gone down.

Yeah I love my echo but Ive heard they may be going down with the HD influence. Not sure if Echo is still Kioritz like our old ca. 1983 chain saw, which still works like a champ...

My 2006 echo blower leaks like crazy... I have other older 2-stroke OPE that does not do this at all.

But the 600?!? Thats a lot of air. I was thinking about the one thats only 65 db, quiet is nice

Not sure what the impact of that much less airflow would be though...

Stihl promotes 2 sales a year, Spring and Fall. Should be coming up on the Fall sale soon.

If you need it now, if they won't give you a discount, ask what they'll throw in- 2-stroke oil, hearing/eye protection, etc.

You can't go wrong with either the Stihl or Echo. I just finished blowing the gutters out with my 15 year old Echo hand held blower. It started and idled on the first pull. I run 93 non-ethanol and Echo power blend oil at a 50:1 mix. Buy the one you can get the be$t deal on.

Im in no rush. This is a nice to have, and I have a great handheld Echo that works fine.

Any idea what the sale usually gets to in terms of percentages, freebies, etc?
