Dealership strikes again

According to the capacity chart, the Sportage takes 6.1qts, did they actually put 7qts in (i.e. is it overfilled) or just round up to 7qts on the invoice? That wouldn't be right but better than being .9qt overfilled.

Also, if he is interested, discount tire rotates tires for free.
He’s coming over for dinner tonight I’ll check the level

Yes they round up to seven in this example. Glad my stuff is 4.6 quarts or so, fits the "up to 5 quart" spec with a little headroom for shenanigans. Not that I would go to quicky lubes, but that the engineers thought of American service booby traps when they set the specs.

My car with filter is 4.89 in goes 5 Qt

Yes, this thread should have been titled stealership does it again. Very disappointing my old man put down $187 for oil and tire rotation especially on a lease. Toyota care good for 2yrs/25k miles in services. Not saying he shouldn’t maintain a lease but be more mindful.

I was out of town ( 7 hours from home ) on vacation in the North Carolina Mountains and decided to have my then new Fords first oil change service done. it was a Saturday and the dealer closed at noon but I got in and got my service and all was well so I thought...

Picked my car up and 6 miles later I hit the Blue Ridge Parkway, then 3 miles up and I start smelling engine coolant so I pull over, open the hood and the coolant cap was broken! I could tell the tech broke it doing his inspection and just sat it back on without sealing!

I drove straight back to that dealer but its now 12:30 on a Saturday and everyone gone, closed till Monday morning!
My checkout of my Cabin was Monday morning so I show up at that Ford dealer at 8 am and after close inspection of my receipt the dealer not only broke my coolant cap he installed the wrong oil!

My turbo version uses 10w-30 he installed the 5w-30 the more common version the non turbo version of my car uses but is not even an option for my turbo 2.0. The oil fill cap has BOLD yellow use 10W-30, How can a tech NOT see that? how can a tech break a coolant cap and just sit it back on thinking I would not notice a coolant leak? I wonder if that Ford dealer had some 17 year old kid doing his 1/2 day Saturday oil changes or something?

The dealer has no new coolant cap in stock, would be a few days to order. I explain I have to check out of my cabin that day, this was that Solar Eclipse week across the South East and EVERY HOTEL / cabin was booked between NC and my home on the SC coast!
I asked that dealer to please give me a coolant cap off a new or used car so I could get home, He refused!

I did find a HERO Ford dealer a few towns over that was happy to give me a cap off his inventory car ( FREE) and got me on my way!
After arriving back home I went ballistic on that original servicing dealer! I ended up getting a check to cover a new coolant cap, a new oil change ( at my local dealer with the correct oil ) a coolant flush so all ended okay but was a very unpleasant experience and me and that Service manager were like oil and water, at first he would take zero responsibility. I went over his head but he did send me a check...

I will never do a oil change on vacation again and EVERY Time I have a dealer service my car, I insist the service writer Type and Print on my work order, Customer says use 10W 30 ( or whatever ) and DO NOT OVER FILL OIL ( as overfill is a common issue with dealers now) I'm nice but firm and tell that service writer that I will pop my hood and check my oil level before I leave your dealership! If your tech overfilled it, you will be draining it and starting over!

I have to admit, my wife first oil change was free at the Chevy Dealer. 2025 Equinox, 0/20 oil. Level is fine.
SO the free one is done, now I will be doing it. I am REALLY having a problem mentally using a 0/20 oil in the Southeast no less and with a turbo.
I was in Walmart the other day and couldn't bring myself to buy the 0/20 then had a 5/20 in my hand. Took it out of the cart and put it back on the shelf... because I REALLY think I should use a 5/30 here. However.. ugh... only thing I have bought is the oil filter so far

Here’s a trick some use. Buy the 0W-20 and return it. Buy the 5W-30 and use it. You now have a 0W-20 receipt for your records. Heck, take a picture of the 0W-20 bottle before you return it for your records too.
