Sad and enlightening, finding out how customers are truly regarded. I'm not familiar with how GM and Stellantis dealerships are treating their customers, but I am seeing a lot of negative experiences on the Mustang forum. Kind of hoping that this supply and demand issue we have going on right now will signal the end of dealerships, and bring forth ordering directly from the factory.

The real-life experiences of Mustang buyers makes this credible to me. Dealerships are a no Fs given organization these days. Their time has passed.

Having way too much experience with how Ford dealers handle warranty repairs on (what should be) simpler, ordinary ICE vehicles, I would have ZERO confidence in their ability to handle the electronics of an EV. In their defense, Dodge & diesel vehicles haven’t been any better.

The issue is if you cut off dealerships how do get cars repaired... and plenty of contracts and $$$$$$$$$$ going around.

Thanks for the heads up but there will be 8 pages railing against dealerships anyway. ADP is nothing new, saw it 25 years ago on Honda Accords of all things.

The local GMC dealer sold a new Yukon for MSRP out of state and shipped it to the buyer. Got notice from GM corporate that it was for sale on a GMC lot there. The buyer was an employee of that dealer. No action was taken.

Friend has a Tesla. Tesla sends mechanic where you are! I've seen a mechanic at friend's work.

In my area we are hearing aggressive radio ads pushing a Nissan buy direct program.

I haven't looked into it as my luck with Nissan products is not good! They are the first I have heard of though.

Problem is Tesla has to send a mechanic in most cases and from what I understand, wait days to a week at times. Though you never know, maybe one day this will be the "new model" for service. Would certainly be cheap enough if future mechanics were all self employee 1099 workers.

Car dealers are not going away anytime soon though and except maybe for the APPLE car you will not be ordering direct from the manufacturer.

I believe the writing is on the wall, dealerships will be repair and parts facilities, sales will be handled by corporate. All those expensive makeovers at the dealerships showrooms will be money thrown down a hole. The dealerships have no one to blame but themselves, theres 3 managers for every sales person and "business office" people contacting customers with no mention of their sales persons name. Too many people trying to slice an ever shrinking pie. Say what you want about car sales people but its a lousy job with poor pay and the worst middle management system I have ever witnessed.

1) MSRP is just that ... a "suggested" price from the OEM. The Dealer, however, is allowed to price above or below MSRP at their discretion.
2) Highly desired models have always been at/above MSRP when supply is low; that's the law of supply and demand
3) life has a means of circling back ... slow sales and layoffs will come someday, and dealers will be kissing cusotmer's posteriors, and customers have long memories

Waiting isn't unique to Tesla.

I couldnt get into a service bay in under a week the last times I tried anyway so no change for me.

If I have to wait Id rather have them come to me than drive there, arrange transport to and from, then wait again to pick up.......

Many times the original poster is threaten with legal action unless post is removed. I'm not saying that's what happened here-but it has happened.

Yep - it’s the back of the house(the service department) supporting the front of the house(sales).

If dealerships go the way of the dodo or the Apple/Tesla way, we’ll see either authorized service/parts centers, a manufacturer opening a store like Apple or Tesla. But more than likely, they’ll use the same model as the appliance makers. If you have a Samsung or LG appliance, they’ll send their guys out. Else, even if you bought from Costco/Home Depot/Lowe’s A&E Service - a joint venture between Sears and Whirlpool is coming out.

There’s a lot of Bridgestone Retail Operations(Firestone/Wheel Works/Tires Plus) stores, Goodyear Service Network-affiliated stores, Jiffy Lubes and NTB(Big O Tires/Midas/Speedee Oil) shops out there. The OEMs can sign a deal with them.

Tesla doesn’t do body work, they are authorizing body shops.

I don't think the new generation is going to accept the status quo in regards to the Dealership model. They are use to ordering online-don't care for adversarial relationships that are in car negotiations-and to top it off vehicles are not a priority for them.

This alone will force change of some sort. It's a badly out dated model that is no longer advantageous (almost a liability) for the manufacturers.

Excellent point. Computers and the Internet have changed the world and will only continue to do so.
