Dave’s Auto Center oil

I never believed in expensive oil. I get mainstream products and it could be anything from super tech to Kirkland to Mystic to mobil one. Anything priced within reason that typically exceeds the manufacturer requirements or in general motors Dexos requirement Same goes for oil filters.

When possible I do like to change before the oil life system says to change by a factor of 25% sooner as our cars don’t drive as much now that we’re retired.

I don’t believe oil fixes a poorly engineered engine. I’ve never had an engine failure and I never had an engine burn oil though I think the longest I ever held onto a vehicle was maybe 140,000 miles and then sold it.

I also used 5W-30 oil instead of 0/20 or 5/20 in my Dodge Durango before I sold it with, I forgot the engine, but it was the small V8.

The Chevy traverse that I replaced the Durango with calls for 5W-30 so I’m good with that.

However, right now with my wife’s new 2025 Equinox I did change with 0w20 and I have two more oil changes with 0w20 in my garage.
I’m uncomfortable running 0/20 in her turbo engine, but for lack of better reason, I was thinking what if something went wrong and what if a dealership tested the oil. So I’ll change it 25% before the oil system says too and eventually get up the nerve to put 5W-30 in it after two more changes

There is a big difference in repairing a side by side versus rebuilding a diesel engine. Not every machine shop has the knowledge to rebuild anything that comes in the door, I would prefer someone who specializes in what I need. Just because your mechanic can fix a lawn mower does not mean he can fix a Lamborghini.

Agree 100%!! I always take my vehicles or equipment to specialized facilities or do it myself. Back many years ago I had machine shop do the work and did the assembly myself. These days I'm fortunate to have places that do it right the first time and if not, will make it right.

If "FF" is a double explative meant in a positive way than I would agree! LOL Never seen "FF" before so I am guessing.

His shop caters to a different market, that's for sure. Way out of my tax bracket!

I am not sure what you problem is with Gale Banks. Gale Banks has a proven track record in the real world and racing. He has consulted for almost every domestic manufacture of cars and trucks in America. His products are 100% sound even if over priced. It is no wonder everyone else coppies him every chance they get! Now I do not like that Gale Banks say's God D#m$it all the time but that is me judging his morality and vulgarity not me judging his automotive engineering knowldge or results! There is no company in the world making after market high performance diesel parts that is better than him at what he does which is a fairly narrow niche.

Dave's is not like any other shop I am aware of in any town or city I have lived in in the USA, Africa or Europe. Sure there are some mechanic shops his size with the number of mechanics he has, bays, that work on diesels and gasoline vechiles. Do they also repair Ferrari engines, AMG engines, Mazzarati engines in house using OEM and in house manufactured parts? Keep in mind Daves has a full machine shop that builds and warranties everything from mild to wild to exotic and diesels in house!

I am sure they outsource some custom work. They have also designed fixes for known problems for select engines.

You might as well compare Jay Leno's custom garage to your local Mike's Fix'It Shop in West Branch Michigan to compare Dave's to any other garage! LOL I was going to take my 800HP 2019 Ram 3500 to Daves for some work but I took it to my local SEAR's Maintence Center instead same/same! LOL

Then I must have replied to the wrong post.

I assure you the post I clicked reply to was rather negative about Daves for pushing Gale Banks Products. If it did not pertain to you than obviously it was not a responce to you or at you. Sorry if it shortened your life span any from the micro agressions and trama but clearly you knew it was not meant for you. So instead of saying I am sorry I would tell you what my kindergarten teacher used to tell us kids "Suck it up butter cup!" LOL Since you clearly knew it had nothing to do with you I can not very well take your offense very seriously.

For the record I am not a negative person, I do not shout or even raise my voice often maybe once or twice per decade. I do not understand why everyone on the this site seems to apply a negative or angry tone to everything. Even my point about Gale Banks was not defending a living legend as he needs no defense it was merely pointing out that he is not someone of ill repute hocking snake oil and merch. A persons character though should have no bearing on the merits of his work and results.

I am almost always in a fantastic mood and having a great time when talking oil with the guys! I do not come to this site often I am gone for days or weeks but when I do it is smile, share and have a good time 95% of the time! I spend most of my time reading. I am sorry though that you thought I was in some way being negative or a Debbie-Downer to qute SNL.

I love this site and people and conversations! It is too bad we have to type everything you could here me speaking you would know I am laughing and smiling even as I type this!

P.S. I do not own any Gale Banks gear but have installed a lot of his stuff for friends and family. I own Gale Banks knock-off gear in the form of Evil Energy Grid Heater Delete. I would like to get a Banks Pedal Comander though! Some times the very best is worth the extra dime!
