Dave’s Auto Center oil

Maybe, but some of the @High Performance Lubricants product could get to that point. Im not against paying 💰 if its good oil, fits a specific need like high tbn or hths. If its 75$, does 10k on a TGDi engine, doesn't shear out of weight, and could possibly give me margin to go another 5k thats not too bad.
Every oil has a place and a price point.

This overpriced snake oil isn’t anywhere in the same league as HPL.

I would not use the word snake oil as that is quite harsh. However I can't imagine spending over triple the cost of something that does just as good.

Just the other day Delvac was on sale at only 26 bucks for a 2.5 gallon bottle. I picked up 2 of them. I can do 3K-5K oil change intervals and still come out way ahead with piece of mind. Also Delvac is sold almost everywhere.

Delvac is FF in the DMax …

I watch some of his videos, he has done well with the YouTube channel and I am sure it has made him a lot of money. He’s rather annoying to watch since he seems to be a micro manager and cannot just let his employees work without intervening. I have posted feedback on their YT channel stating this. There is some good info to be gained on some of the repairs though if you can overlook stuff like their overpriced oil. It does give you a feel for the major failure points on newer vehicles.

Picturing the invoice when your RAM 3500 is ready at that shop - motor oil will blend in with the miscellaneous …

I looked up this "Dave Auto Center" and he looks to be just another one of those YouTube influencers using his shop as a marketing tool. As soon as I seen him pawning off Gale Banks products I stopped watching.
Hes a good dude. Hell of a mechanic. Ive met him personally. His shop is 100% legit. Can pretty much build anything....

It is Klotz. They say so in one of their video's of a truck having major work done. I think they rebuilt the Diesel, replaced the Turbo and installed a lot of Gale Banks goodies. They mention directly that they partnered with Klotz. I am 100% sure on the Klotz not on which episode though!

I can not think of anyone in the last 20 years that has publicly contracted with Red Line to make an oil for them. I am a Red Line fan boy too.

I remember saying to myself when they announced that "Oh a lotof East Coast Porsche Clubs like Klotz in old vintage engines and gear boxes especially the ones that would show up for SCCA events especially the vintage guys!

Klotz is a well company to anyone that has any historical background in the automotive world of collecting or racing vintage cars. It is at least as well known as Schaeffers and Cenpeco. They are old companies, mostly regional and into vintage cars and minning operations. Before what 2 years ago no one heard of HPL before! You guys ever heard of Standard Oil, Union Pacific, Wolfs Head, Cenpeco, Schaeffers, Penrite, Fuchs???? Not every company has a shelf tag at Walmart but that does not mean they are nobodies either. Like wise a rebuilder's warranty should not reflect on the oil. I am not sure of any engine builders that do not require the same thing.
Klotz is a great oil. Same type of company as HPL. Caters to race cart guys, crazy power diesels, and guys running 2 stroke oil. I used to run thier oil in my old 2 stroke 2.5 Diamond Marine 300 Merc outboard that spun 9k rpms. Really popular in the Indian motorcycle crowd. Good company.

That's good to know if you are a local for sure.

What is mind boggling are the click baits that mention owners traveling across the country to have him do the work. I have at least a half dozen reputable machine shops and mechanics that are just as good or better only a few miles away. I cannot imagine his shop being so fantastic that has someone driving thousands of miles to him unless he is working for a heavy discount so they can be on his "show".

I do like how he builds engines, you would never know how local shops do it unless they let you witness the entire process. At least with Dave you can watch his videos and see how they do it. Lot’s of people claim to be engineers builders but we all know there are different levels of competence and you cannot just take someone’s word. Another factor is finding a shop that is doing well so they do not go under and take your money with them. I have known people who lost out big time by paying for work and then the business closes.

If I had my old first gen Powerstroke still and wanted to rebuild it I would consider sending it to him.

It was Walmart. Not sure if the sale is still going or not. I normally don't shop there unless I'm desperate or find out about a good sale. Best time to go is right when it opens, know what you want and get in and out quickly.

I'm not sure about the rest of the country but here in CA the robberies, shootings and attacks are very high at these stores.

My local GMC dealer sells the Delvac 15W 40 in 2.5 containers for about 35 or 40 bucks.

WHere in CA these robberies, shooting and attacks at walmarts happening..?? asking for a friend.. :)

Better is subjective. He's the best diesel engine builder Ive seen. I mean they'll let you watch and explain everything they are doing. Big $$$ though

I have both machine shops and mechanics I'm able to trust in both powersports and 4 wheeled vehicles. My personal opinion is if you have to watch or concerned in any way then it's not the right shop for you. I have longstanding relationships with shops and dealerships I have done business with for decades.

Foothill Ranch, Beaumont, La Habra, Highland etc etc. Irvine CA is the one I witnessed a car jacking after a retail theft.

In my occupation I have the same thing and everyone makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. When it is for my employer, we can handle some minor, unexpected expenditures. When it is my money, if I am paying for an engine rebuild, if it is not done right and I have to pay someone else to fix it, that is a cost that I cannot afford. Dave has had engines in there like that where people paid big money and the engine failed and they ended up paying twice for a job that was not done right.

There is a big difference in repairing a side by side versus rebuilding a diesel engine. Not every machine shop has the knowledge to rebuild anything that comes in the door, I would prefer someone who specializes in what I need. Just because your mechanic can fix a lawn mower does not mean he can fix a Lamborghini.
