Dave’s Auto Center oil

The bottle looks suspiciously similar to the gallon bottles of Red Line oil cleaner I've bought in the past
Wonder if it's a Phillips 66 Product (Like the redline)?

I personally can't stand Dave, that's just me 🤔

$75/gallon and NO REAL SPECS at all? Should have called it “P.T. Barnum oil”!
Certainly not defending his product, but many of us pay similar prices for HPL. The difference is we know what we're buying relative to Dave's "trust us" oil.

I remember in one of his videos he mentioned to keep the warranty on his engines valid, you were required to change the oil every 3k miles. I just looked up his warranty and yep, 3k miles or your warranty is void (text is in red).

I have never used HPL but I have looked at there products and they are very clear about what they are offering, and even willing to answer questions about it, specifically because they blend it themselves. If its what you want then I understand exactly why people would buy it.

Dave's oil is, per the OP "Someone makes us the best oil". As we know from around here define "best", but Dave gives no data anyway.

I would say very different.

To me, the biggest take-away is you buy HPL for its quality "ingredients" and extended OCI abilities, especially when driving a diesel. Dave is marketing his unknown product, but requires oil to be changed every 3k miles on his rebuilt engines or your warranty is void. I wonder how many of his engine rebuilding customers are aware of these limitations before having their engines rebuilt by his shop? At 3k intervals, I'd be buying the cheapest swill that "meets the specs". After the warranty expires, switch to a high quality oil designed to be driven extended intervals.

His diesel rebuilt warranty is 3 years/100k miles. You'd need to change the oil an average of 11 times/year in those 3 years if you're running close to the 100k miles.

I can't imagine any diesel engine manufacturer requiring 3k OCIs. Then again, I don't own a diesel.

Was watching one of their videos recently and noticed they’re selling oil now. They said they had someone make it for them who makes the “best oil” that they were already using.

Anyone know who makes it for them?

I heard them say it's blended/bottled by Klotz. Either Dave or his son Miles said so.

That's not wildly uncommon in that industry. Jasper requires oil changes every 3-4 months or 3,000-4,000 miles, whichever comes first.

For both of the engines that Jasper had to warranty for me, neither had anything near what was an oil related problem.

I could see 5k intervals. 3k does seem excessive but I guess it removes all risk depending on the condition of emissions systems and DPF regens (3k pretty much guarantees any fuel dilution likely won’t kill the engine as it’ll be changed out quickly enough).

Even with HPL, with modern diesels and EGRs, there’s no magic oil that will prevent soot buildup.

It is Klotz. They say so in one of their video's of a truck having major work done. I think they rebuilt the Diesel, replaced the Turbo and installed a lot of Gale Banks goodies. They mention directly that they partnered with Klotz. I am 100% sure on the Klotz not on which episode though!

I can not think of anyone in the last 20 years that has publicly contracted with Red Line to make an oil for them. I am a Red Line fan boy too.

I remember saying to myself when they announced that "Oh a lotof East Coast Porsche Clubs like Klotz in old vintage engines and gear boxes especially the ones that would show up for SCCA events especially the vintage guys!

Klotz is a well company to anyone that has any historical background in the automotive world of collecting or racing vintage cars. It is at least as well known as Schaeffers and Cenpeco. They are old companies, mostly regional and into vintage cars and minning operations. Before what 2 years ago no one heard of HPL before! You guys ever heard of Standard Oil, Union Pacific, Wolfs Head, Cenpeco, Schaeffers, Penrite, Fuchs???? Not every company has a shelf tag at Walmart but that does not mean they are nobodies either. Like wise a rebuilder's warranty should not reflect on the oil. I am not sure of any engine builders that do not require the same thing.

I looked up this "Dave Auto Center" and he looks to be just another one of those YouTube influencers using his shop as a marketing tool. As soon as I seen him pawning off Gale Banks products I stopped watching.

75 a gallon is a very hard and laughable pass.
Maybe, but some of the @High Performance Lubricants product could get to that point. Im not against paying 💰 if its good oil, fits a specific need like high tbn or hths. If its 75$, does 10k on a TGDi engine, doesn't shear out of weight, and could possibly give me margin to go another 5k thats not too bad.
Every oil has a place and a price point.
