D1G2 20wt oil HTHS for GM

Folks,

My aunt that had the Nissan Juke that puked the CVT transmission recently with only 90K, has gone out and bought a new GM vehicle, so I'm looking for a quality shelf-oil with the best HTHS that meets the dexos 1 Gen 2 specification.
She lives out of town from me so she will have her mechanic put in whatever I tell her is best.

As I use Amsoil and I'm not up on who would have the best HTHS in a 20wt that is dexos 1 Gen 2 approved from the shelf variety and I thought rather than try to look over all the PDS's and compare I thought it might make for good discussion here.

The reason I'm concerned is because the vehicle is under warranty and I want the best protection she can get from a shelf oil to safeguard against timing chain issues.

What car is it that you think will have timing chain issues? Doesn't it just require a Dexos 1 or 2? I just run Mobil 1 in my Caprice and 2.0 Turbo Malibu. No issues.

By "best" HTHS, are you really saying highest HTHS? HTHS is just a minimum specification. I've never seen one outside the small range of 2.6-2.7 in dexos1 Gen2 oils that is. Moly protects timing chains quite well according to some tech papers, & Zepro Eco Medalist 0w20 dexos1 is the highest moly dexos1 Gen2 for timing chains. Amazon best source for it.

I don't want to specify the vehicle because it will turn into a peeing match over which version of the engine has the issue and which one doesn't and that's not important.

The manual calls for a Dexos oil in the 20wt variety so I'm looking for a shelf oil that is D1G2 20wt that offers the best HTHS for her.

Yeah that's what I thought but I posed the question anyway in case there was one that was slightly higher. I will also be looking at Moly content and preferably the Tri-nuclear type.

Just tell her to either get M1 or Pennzoil Platinum and I'm sure that engine will live a long life with either.

I'm sure you are right but this it BITOG and it's about the extra margins.

Just check the oil manufacturer websites for their PDS. I think you will discover that they are all pretty much the same.

As I have said many times, any major brand will do.

I'll give a hint here, most brands are 2.7. One brand is 2.75. I won't say which one.

I just tried looking it up on PQIA and the 5w30 looks like it has it but not sure about the 5w20. I would imagine it would being in the same series of oil.

I like Mobil 1 so what can I say? Mobil 1 5w-20 is SN(+), Dexos and GF5 at HTHS 2.75. Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 is SN, A1/B1 at HTHS 2.7. HM would be my choice for the ACEA certs. But that's pretty nit-picky on my part. Truthfully, ANY Dexos oil would do just fine...

If you're worried about timing chain life, it's hard to beat Magnatec, in either 0W20 or 5W20-that stuff sticks to everything!

The Ravenol DXG has tri-nuclear moly, dexos 1 Gen 2 approval, and is a shelf oil at Blauparts. Only thing is its a 5W30, but so far in my Fusion its as smooth as warm butter. Only real negative is the cost.
