Cycling Canmore to Lake Louise

Last summer we cycled Canmore to Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. It's about 87 km with 910 m of ascent and 480 m of descent, for a net elevation gain of about 430 m.

It was cool and rainy when we started out, and cleared up throughout the day.

Back on the road. The old highway was closed to traffic most of the way.

Somehow it's always rainy in the mountains. And if you aren't lucky, it snows instead.

The best camping in the world is just north of Lake Louise. Where else can you tent within walking distance of your vehicle and an actual bathroom, have a 360 degree view and still not be able to see another camper, and wake up every morning at the height of summer with frost on your tent. Perfect.

We've had surprisingly good luck - cycled from Banff to Jasper in 2013, and had only minor rain one or two of the four days. Didn't have to stop.
