Cybertruck: Jay Leno with Tesla Engineer and Designer

To me, that "truck" looks like some amalgamation of a Tonka toy and a Transformer. In my eyes, it's ugly. But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... It's interesting, but only to those who enjoy the avant-garde sort of life.

Further, I don't see much utility to it. It has an interesting hatch/"trunk?" (sort of), but you can't let stuff hang out the back (lumber, pipes, drywall, etc). And their reason for making that hatch was theft? As if there is no such thing as a tonneau cover available for normal truck beds?

It won't sell well in rural America, IMO; never, ever will it usurp F-series or Silverado sales - not in a lifetime.

And was I supposed to be impressed by a truck "fording" a small creek that even a FWD Escape could cross?
That would certainly appear to be the case... Ford, GM and Stellantis better hope so anyways.
One thing I am curious about is, who buys pickups; that is, what are the buyer's real use cases?
Which leads to my real question; who is the Cybertruck market?

Interesting times ahead.

BMW still has, and bets on ICE portfolio. Considering today's events in Berlin, I highly doubt Europe will ban ICE before 2050, and that is a BIG if.
But, what exactly Cybertruck offers except obnoxiousness? Rivian is there, there are other EV trucks. Off-road capability is there somewhere with my BMW and that is bcs. clearance on my BMW.
I am not talking about ICE. I am talking about the Neue Classe, which is designed as an EV from the ground up.

I know what you are talking about. But unlike Tesla, BMW knows, can, and still bets on ICE.
There is a huge drop in demand for EVs. But more importantly, there is generally a big issue behind this in Europe that is beyond this topic and will influence EVs accessibility and penetration.
Only people who care about this truck that addresses some other deficiencies among certain people, live in super rich areas, and really do not know what to do with themselves. My money is that in 10 years we will still have the same trucks being best sellers.

You asked me a question; I answered it. Then you go off topic.

All electrics are junk. Cobalt, Lithium? Not saving the planet, just making it worse
At least you got the blanket statement on lock. This is what kills every topic on this section of the site. Making comments out of spite because there’s something that you don’t like and determined to tell everyone about it like it’s supposed to change the mind of current owners.

BTW my car doesn’t use cobalt. Sure you don’t care about that though.

Coal is at a record high in Europe. They are burning coal like there is no tomorrow, but hey, Norway bought a bunch of Teslas.

Most of EUs coal usage is Poland and Germany alone. Its also not record high. It increased in 2022 but still lower than a few years ago.

What exactly they will fallow? They might introduce something to get “keeping up with neighbors” crowd. At the same time, they will offer something with actual 4WD, two speed transfer case etc.
This thing is not contraversial. There are two types of people here:
1. People who don’t have life, and this is pinnacle of their existence in this decade.
2. Everyone else that has to endure Musk’s ass flies that pop out every time any web site is opened.
The Cybertruck is four to five years late twice as expensive as promised, and is short on every metric that Musk claimed it would have. Lets put it this way. If Ferrari promised a new limited release hypercar that was worse than claimed on every metric and then twice as expensive as promised heads would roll in Modena. People would no longer be employed with the company. If musk can make up claims of performance why does anyone actually trust him on his claims of 2 million deposits?

Yesterday’s price was I think record high.
It is not only Poland and Germany. Germany imports huge amounts of power and many countries can’t keep up with the German demand (and some other countries). The EU had huge demands (to get off the coal) toward 6-7 countries that are big electricity producers and where a lot of power is derived from coal. That is gone. Basically, they are encouraging as much as burning as EU needs it. Problem is not for EU as pollution is not visible in Brussels etc.
Also take into consideration Germany shutting down nuclear plants. But hey, EV’s…

Because owning it is not about any performance or practicality. 99% of customers, or 100% of those that want it right now, don’t care about any of it.

Calm down. Do you actually think people at Ferrari would be fired if their very carefully calculated cost analysis was torpedoed by global economic and supply chain problems and a vehicle that went into the planning stage some 4 years prior to actual launch (and I'm not just talking about the Cyvertruck, but the actual average for all manufacturers) had to have a price adjustment when it was released ? Do you think none of the other automakers, ICE or EV are unaffected by those global factors too ?

How about we give the Cybertruck a year and then evaluate its success or failure. Either financially or performance wise.
And just for the record, I have no interest in owning an EV at this time. Even though it would make a lot of sense for my lifestyle. My interest in Tesla's success is entirely selfish since I own a good chunk of stock. I find Elon to be immensely entertaining too and am not triggered by some of his deeds and words like some people are. I wonder if it is uncomfortable walking when their panties are in a bunch all the time.

Even if anything close to 2 million, it doesnt matter. That was based on a different price range and different time frame.
It was easy to put down a deposit but dont think it matters one bit on future sales.

His words do have to have some meaning since this is a publicly traded company, he cant make up preorder numbers and sales number. It is not Elon Musks company, he is an employee. No secret he is always skirting the securities laws by his whacked out statements, void of reality, full of fantasy.

The board needs to oust the guy, he took Tesla to where it is, time to dump him or the company may regress into nothingness.
Blown opportunities to come out with new vehicles that matter to Americans, while wasting money on an overpriced show truck. If Tesla doesn't change direction quickly Tesla WILL get run over. (no pun intended!)
The average American is not impressed by what they offer.

The story of Elon is not only of a brilliant engineer and businessman.

It is also the story of the American dream.

Elon came to the United States as a relatively unknown and relatively modest engineer/businessman. Through his hard work and brilliance he became the richest man in the world.

This is what America can do for you if you are willing to work 80 yours a week. This is what every immigrant that comes to the US hopes to achieve.

It was tough for Biden to even meet with Xi. Meanwhile, Musk has privately met with the Chinese foreign minister and he's been praised by Dimitri Medvedev. He commands a lot of respect internationally.

If I am not mistaken the US constitution prohibits someone not born in the US from becoming president. I think the US should consider an ammendment to the constitution. He could do a lot of great things.

Anyways I believe the Cybertruck will be a massive success.

Visionaries have always been mocked, until people realized they were right all along. Think of Galileo, Coopernicus, Da Vinci, Columbus. They were all mocked during their time but now everyone realizes their genius.

Elon is waaay to bi-polar at this point to be president. And no we don't need foreigners to be able to be president.

Yes, the dream to be praised by Dimitri Medvedev. JFC.

"Elon as president?" I had to check this wasn't the Humor Section.

When folks try to defend someone who says something objectionable (or many things), they often use the phrase "it's just an act act".

If that doesn’t precisely describe much of the market that is selling at a premium in the US I don’t know what does.
