CVT fluid change intervals

Is there any consensus on how often CVT fluid should be changed? I read that the recommended interval on the Caliber/Compass/Patriot is 120,000 miles on the non-severe schedule. This just seems incredibly long to me, especially considering that a transmission dipstick doesn't even come standard.

1/2 the severe is a good start.
Many are lucky if they make it to 60k without replacement!

30k maximum if it were my CVT regardless of driving style. And, besides mileage if you don't drive much, I consider 2-3years as the max also.

I'm currently at around 60k miles and am debating having the fluid changed now (I'm not even sure if my mechanic can do it). While 120k is a lot of miles, none of my driving even remotely resembles the severe definition (I drive 30k/year, all highway).

I just have doubts that if my CVT goes out that Chrysler will actually honor the lifetime powertrain warranty (even if they are still around).

Are other manufacturers more conservative with their mileage intervals?

Ford recommends 60K intervals with their CFT30 (chain type) CVT. That service includes a pan drop, pan (low pressure) filter change, high pressure filter change, and new seals on the high pressure lines.

A lot of people are following the 60K complete service, but doing basic pan drains/refills at 30K.

Judging by how the fluid looks at 60K, the 30K drain/refill is probably a good idea on these Ford chain-type CVTs.
