Wife found these nice little shelves on Craigslist. They have these hanger slots cut in them. I have a couple other things I'd like to have slots like these. What do I need to make them? Is there a bit that can be used on a drill, or would I need a router? (I don't have a router)

Thanks. I don't have a drill press either, just a regular drill. I'm guessing that would not turn out well. I'll probably just have to attach some brackets to these other things to hang them with.

Simple. All you need is a couple of basic tools.

1. Drill a hole slightly larger than the screw head you'd use to hang the item. That's the big hole in your picture.
2. Drill a hole slightly larger than the screw body right above the previous hole where the top of the slot should be. Use this drill bit to clear the material between the two holes to create the slot.
3. Use a file to clean up the slot.
4. Lower a dremel sawing bit to the bottom of the large hole and cut up into the slot to create the cavity that the screw head will rest in.

That it is, and I have cut thousands and thousands of them using an overhead pin router.

Note that the original poster stated that he didn't have a router, so a router bit would be rather worthless to him.

I agree, I just wanted to let him know the bit that is used to cut the holes.
