Bought one of these about a month ago and liked it so much we bought another for our beach house.
Have tried several...typical bamboo, Acacia wood ones and dome decent plastic ones too. Even wasted $65 on one of those hard rubber ones that Japanese chefs swear by. That got destroyed when it was mistakenly put in the dishwasher.
These are another level. Great but heavy.

Boos Blocks are one of the best. I just bought a 2" tall Acacia board after returning a rubber.
The rubber is a good concept but too specialized and really nothing special about them beyond beneficial to preserving the sharpness of your knives, from my limited experience.

Tried many materials and came back to a plain old ~ 1/4" sheet acrylic. Easier to wash, no maintenance, does not stain, takes up less storage space, fits easily in a single slot of dish drying rack and dries fast. It does dull knives a little faster but for all the benefits, I'll gladly sharpen them a little more often.
