Looking for a full-flow option on filters for my pickup..

I purchased an oil cap from these guys a while back and was very impressed with the build quality.. How does this filter compare to other full flow filters on the market?

P/N EPS-5900
Applications:
Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel 5.9l

Designed For Longer
Service Intervals

OilGuard Full Flow Lube Oil Filters are designed for extended life duty cycles and provide the most efficient particle removal of any full flow filter on the market. OilGuard full flow filters will reduce engine wear, reduce operating costs and support long oil drain extensions (when used with the OilGuard Bypass Filter). OilGuard full flow filters remove particles at the 20-micron size at an efficiency of 98.7% (absolute) and at the 10 micron size at 50% (nominal).

They cost $10 each..

My bypass is only 10um absolute, so it might be helpfull..

How does this compare to, say, Amsoils new and improved super filter or a standard Wix filter.. ?

There was a thread recently on one of the Dodge Diesel sites regarding brands of oil, who used what and why. Responders came up with all these reasons why one oil was better than another. So I started a thread: OK, who has worn one out? Not one person had or knew of anyone who had worn one out in a Dodge pickup. Standard WIX filters are available from Filter1 for about $4 each. If you want to do longer than the recommended 6/7.5K oil change they make the XE for about $8. I use whatever diesel oil is on sale in my Cummins. High end full flow filters, expensive by-pass systems, synthetic oil are all nice, but they aren't going to do much for you in terms of longevity unless you are a rare person who puts on over 100K a year.
Good Luck, you will love your Cummins

And make sure you change your fuel filter. Water in diesel fuel causes a lot of injector problems/failures.

If you ant to add anything, add a fuel water separator whereby you can drain the water out on a daily/weekly basis depending on the problem.

Fleetguard StrataPore is what I use on my Cummins. The only oil related issues I've ever heard of on these engines, is the piston cooling jet nozzles becoming plugged from oil filter media breaking loose, and it's usually from the low end quality filter(s). And as I understand, the failure of the filter media occurs during cold start-up.

I have used just about anything and everything on my truck, usually just to compare.

I cut open most of my filters after I am done with them.. This time I went all out and purchased an expensive K&N filter.. not because I thought it would do any better then what I usually run, but just because I wanted to see what it looked like after 5k miles.

I'm not concerned about oil related failures, or anything like that.. I like to pride myself in taking care of my truck (I do the gearboxes every 20k, fuel filter every 10k, oil filters every 5k, and oil every 10k).. I'm not looking at extending my drains further then what I currently do until I have enough lab reports back to warrent it. Eventually, I'm shooting for 10k filter changes and 20k oil changes... but in due time.

The cummins is incredible. I'm not concerned about wearing it out.. Lift pumps are another story.. I do plan on keeping this truck until everything around the engine breaks/wears out though.

So not a single person has an opinion on THIS filter or has used THIS filter?

I would suggest that you try the Baldwin Filter:

To be honest, first I have heard of them is your post.
The previous owner of my truck used NAPA Gold exclusively, which are the standard 51607 WIX. I have been using the WIX 51607 filters since I bought the truck. I get them from Filter 1 at just over $4 each. 10K filter changes and 20K OCI's are quite a strech from the Cummins recommended 6K (or 7.5K depending on year) oil and filter change unless you're adding the bypass system on the Oilguard website. I would feel comfortable with a 10K OCI with filter if I used a WIX "XE" type or Fleetguard "Stratpore" and did a used oil analysis at the recommended interval before streching it to the extended interval. Personally, I would want a bypass system and Mobil 1 or Schaffer's full synthetic before I felt comfortable to go further. Not cost effective for my circumstances, maybe it would be for yours.

I do run a bypass filter (it was mentioned above your first post..

)

It is only 10um absolute, so it isn't as fine a filtering media as the other options avaiable.. Which is why I am looking at my full flow options to compliment it.

I do appreciate the advice and help though! Keep it coming!

If you can get a WIX for $4 or a Purolator for .99 at Pep Boys on sale (with rebate) why on earth would you use a $4 Wal Mart SuperTech in a Cummins???

"hassle of ordering a bunch of filters from some website vs just walking into walmart and picking one up"

Just to quiet my curiosity, would you say the same thing about ordering from Amsoil or any of the sponsors? (Not trying to start a big debate, just curious if that is reason enough not to order out for parts).
