Wife called and said her car started making this funny noise today. It can be heard moving at slow speeds....it is most prominent when coasting.......ideas? It seems to go away with more gas applied

2010 Honda Fit Sport 190K miles...afaik all suspension original other than rear shocks

Does anyone know how to embed the video from You Tube here rather than just a link?

Probably...it has been trouble free other than the usual wear items for the most part....wondering if it is the axle, CV joint etc...

Fit sport has alloy wheels right?

It almost sounds like something rubbing on the backing plate, Id start by checking wheel bearing for play, brake pads (I've had an aftermarket pad lose a shim and make a similar sound).

Typically a CV makes more noise around a curve... yours seems to diminish around the curve...

That's a good point about the CV...

Yes alloys

I don't have a place to put it up and pull the wheel but your theory about the shim sounds plausible

Do Fit's have the dust covers behind the wheels like Accord do? One of mine bent and it sounded like the car was going to explode. Pulled into a Valvoline instant oil change place and they fixed it for nothing.

Not sure about the dust covers behind the wheels - do you mean like Kleen Wheels? I wasn't aware that Accords came with anything like that either.

Reason i asked a bout alloys is that if someone put something in a wheel cover (perhaps as a joke) it could sound like that...

I'd also check the tires for anything in the treads.

My 2003 Accord has some sort of aluminum covers behind the wheels. I didn't know that either until one of them got warped a bit and was rubbing. It made a heck of a lot more racket than what I am hearing from the Fit though

Male sure the plugs are tight, same car we have blew a plug.

I heard the noises but couldn't put a diagnosis to it.

The repair was $400 which was low compared to a whole new head.

Let us know if plugs were/are loose!!!

After looking at some other forums I'm wonder if it could possibly be dust shields. That is of course if the Honda Fit even has the dust shields behind the rotors. I know my Accord does.

Hmmmm

Either the front struts are noisy or the lower control arm bushings have worn out.

Blue_Goose, among the choices you've been given, I, too, think something is rubbing on the backing plate or you're dragging a brake pad. I'd start by jacking up the front left wheel and spinning it by hand; then left rear.

Neither of these things, btw, is why I responded to your post. I responded to your post to commend your wife. I admire her for: 1) listening for such things; and 2) more importantly, acting appropriately rather than opting to ignore them.

Jacked it up..spun wheel..heard something....touched lug nuts...3 of the 4 turned in my hand

Doh..tightened them up...dropped off jack....torqued to 80 ft pounds...test drive.....voila

Noise gone

Where is the embarrassed icon?

Thanks guys
