Crud deposits in my filters. What does it mean?

I have seen this type of crud in every filter from my F150 for the last 40,000 miles (wasn't looking before that). Truck has about 153,000 miles on it.

doesn't seem to be a problem though.
 
She's not using any oil to speak of, so not likely valve stem seals. Did AutoRx about 35,000 miles ago. Double treatment and rinse cycles. Engine was pretty dirty when I got it. Oil pickup screen was half plugged.

Funky stuff and it looks like it is flaking off inside the engine. Hopefully not to plug any oil passages. So far so good. This is the old tractor of an engine, a 300 cid inline six. These engines run forever. The one in the '84 I used to own has over 250,000 miles and still running strong. Mine runs like a top at 150,000 and I can see it running great in another 100,000 miles, but the fact is the whole truck will fall apart first.
 
Carbon like that comes from the combustion chamber.
It may be on the rings and gets into the oil.

See what trouble and consternation you caused yourself by digging around?

Yes. Last OCI had one pint SLOB on SL Maxlife. At 5000 miles UOA showed 1700 ppm zinc. I predicted more like 1350 ppm.

Actually not worried about this one, but the 476 ppm lead a couple years ago would not have mattered, but that I did UOAs and knew about it.
 
I have a 1979 Dodge p/u w/ the bulletproof 225 slant six. Has 88600 miles,but the old farmer never changed oil,just added.I am currently running 5 quarts of TropArtic 5w30 syn blend,8oz.MMO,and 16oz. SLOB.I have the same soft, black, gritty,carbon deposits on the dipstick!! Currently,NAPA GOLD filter.I've only got 100 miles on the oil and filter,so I'm not changing yet.Would a cheaper filter trap this stuff? Not use SLOB next change? I'm also going to try Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40 and see what happens.Any thoughts on SLOB, FILTER, or OIL?
 
junebug, It seems yours is much worse. I never saw this stuff on my stick. Is this the first time you have changed the oil on it? Maybe you loosened a lot of stuff and now it is floating in the pan. Draining the oil might bring a lot out. Catch it in a clean container, strain it through a T-shirt, then pour it back in. Maybe do several times.

Or, maybe drop the pan and clean out what you can. If it's that bad, maybe the oil pickup is partly or a lot clogged.

Then run some shorter OCIs with the Delvac, no SLOB with Delvac and no slob with short OCIs. Can wait until cleaned out some.

I don't see where a different filter would help.
 
Thanks TallPaul. I'll keep you guys informed,however it needs to warm up a little!! We had 3 inches of snow yesterday.!
