I put a new serpentine belt and idler/ tensioner pulleys on my Suburban yesterday. Truck has 116,000 miles on it and I have never changed the belt that drives the ac compressor. Decided it was time since I have a trip coming up.
I looked at the compressor and saw no way to adjust tension. I'd figure it out. I went to the store to get the parts. The counter guy brings the ac belt and says this is a stretch to fit belt. No tensioner.
I asked if there was a tool. There was and I purchased it also.
I watched a Youtube video and got to it. Cut the old ac belt off, slipped the new one onto the compressor and over the back of the crank pulley and inserted the tool between the belt and the pulley. Turned the engine with a ratchet and the new belt was installed. took about a minute.
I guess the OE's figured out a way to save a few bucks when building a new car.
