Hey,

So, I get a couple e-mails from "someone" wanting to know more basic info, so I return their e-mail.

Then, I immediately get this big paragraph:

"Thanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buy it as a surprise which i dont want anybody to know about and i am not in town at the moment because i work with the Military and have been in camp for some time and due to the nature of my work, It's hard to make a phone calls and visiting of website are restricted but I squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. You can text me on 619-500-xxxx. PLEASE DO NOT CALL,AM NOT ALLOWED TO RECIEVE OR MAKE CALLS. Please include your name. I insisted on PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my PayPal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your PayPal email address so i can make the payment asap for it and please if you don't have PayPal account yet,it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com and get it set up,after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address to make the payment or send me an invoice.please do send me some pics as well.... I have some questions for you;

Are you the first owner of it?
where do you live?
When have you been using it?
How much will you be taking off your price for me?"

So, now they have my e-mail.

Will it be sold to Spammers? Or not?

Anyone else get these and get Spam after?

Ugh.

The same thing happens to me when I try to sell items on Craigs list. I hate that. I get so much SPAM email, I could can it, sell it, and retire............

It is a scam..go along with it and be sure to protect your email and bank information..set up a quick g-mail account and waste the scammers time and money.

You will get a bogus check or some such thing. They will always want some money back..and rob you.

It costs them money to produce the scam..

Never, ever, ever use your main email address for craigslist work. Set up a gmail or other free email account, and use it for your one time needs on selling or buying on craigslist. Problem solved.

Craigslist works very well once you use techniques like this to weed out the spammers.

I even put NO SPAMMERS! in my ad! Geez.

I reported the e-mail to CL...

Ya never should have to deal with this! What is wrong with people?

I also use a Google Voice phone number. That way, once the item is sold, I can turn off the phone, etc.

I just get a text when I have a voice mail. It tries to convert the voice to text. Sometimes it does well. Other times, not so much.

With gMail, you can set up your mail to look like it's coming from the anonymous e-mail provided by CL. That way, if I do respond, the address I send from is the same address as the one CL creates for the ad.

I usually repeat that it's cash only, if you are not here in person, please do not bother.

I will tell you I do not know any one in the United States Military that will use that kind of grammar. But definitely a scam just delete and get rid of it.

How do you do that?

In g-mail, you can go to your settings and set up an e-mail identity. They send an e-mail to that address to verify you have it. Once confirmed, you can send as that user.

This is the THIRD one from 3 different e-mail addresses... and I'm listing a motorcycle!
