I picked up a couple more of the CQ Blues from RockAuto for $2.00 each. One of them was a proper WIX made CQ Blue with a silicone ADBV and wire-mesh backed media. This one had a nitrile ADBV and I did not see the desired wire backing so I decided to cut it open and share the photos.

The date code was F07B09F1

F = Fayetteville, North Carolina Plant
07 = Month
B = Year 2010
09 = Day of the Month
F = Line Number
1 = Shift

So a 6 year old CQ Blue which was in really good condition, the media was not brittle, but the ADBV was a little stiff. However, the thing that seems REALLY strange to me is though it is marked Affinia (which is WIX), unless I am grossly mistaken, this is a Purolator filter with the telltale string around the media and the Purolator date code.

Equally if not more telling than the assembly string is what looks to be the bottom/inside part of a flat spring type bypass used by Puro. Never seen one those on a Wix. Realize some folks put off by the assembly string, but all in all this one looks quite good imo. Also made while Puro jointly owned, M&H and Bosch.

No idea how it got the Affinia markings on it unless CQ did it after the fact. Also what looks to be a Champ type date code in yellow/orange on dome. Weird.

Another RA Forrest Gump filter anecdote, never know what you're going to get.

Amen brother! I have very lucky for the most part and am happy with the great prices for the remainder of the filters.
