Now that I got your attention.......

Lets imagine that your hunting rifles and shotguns were lost in a house fire and
the insurance company gave you $25,000 for a replacement settlement.

You can't exchange the credit for cash.

You want 2 shotguns, two rim fire rifles, and 3 center fire rifles of different
calibers/cartridges.

I was faced with a similar situation in that I sold everything during the
"gun control" years.

This is how my break down started:

6.5X55 T3
325 WSM Coyote lite
.300 Win 70 Supergrade
12 Ga 686E
20 Ga BPS upland
17HMR CZ452
22LR savage Varm Lam.

The purpose of the 6.5X55 was so my daughter and daughter-in-law could shoot.

In BC we have to carry "heavy" because of Grizz.

In hind sight I would have picked a 7MM-08 instead of the 6.5X55.

For interest and opinion what would you do different?

We don't got bears other than Koalas (and the less than occasional drop bear and Yowie).

I always like to have a .223 in the collection...and like them to have used the NATO reamer in them (like my CZ527 seems to have)...just in case you need to use something lying around.

CZ make killer .22s, I've got a 1967 model 2 (microgroove) that's accurate and fun.

Playing with my Rossi matched pair (.22LR/12ga), the break open simplicity makes it plain fun as well...could do without the 12 ga. Was toying with getting the 12ga made into a 9mm pistol round.

Actually, can't think of 5, as many of the choices that I've made before are too specialist and ended up generally wrong.

Would get/keep
* Brno Model 2 (or a 452);
* CZ527 in .223;
* a rossi/H&R break action, with .22, .410 (can make brass cases out of old .303 shells in a pinch, can shoot round balls/slugs), and a .17 rimfire barrel, reamed into a Myra squeeze bore.

Rimfires- Ruger 10/22 and a Marlin 39 in 22lr

Centerfire Rifles- 20inch AR15 in 5.56, CZ550 Safari in 375 H&H, and FAL in 7.62 NATO

Shotgun- Browning A5 Light Twelve(old model), and a Remington Tactical 1100

Those would cover defense, hunting, and recreational shooting.

I thought this was gonna be about meeting "mature" females at the local shooting range. Not that I'd mind. If I knew women who look like Lana Parilla were going to be shopping for pistols and rifles, I'd be over there like a . . .

Wow! Having that cash, I would go nuts.....

You had an interesting mix of guns. You must have had a reason for buying each one. Do those same reasons still apply for each one? Think about what you want to do, then get the gun that fits the reason+price. If you can get what you want for less then available cash, stock up on ammo, gear, or whatever the settlement allows.

I'll tell you this, I wish I could replace some of the guns I've owned through the years.

You and I thought alike on the topic...

Now, Mrs. Astro is the one who joined our local shooting range, it was her idea...she is an outstanding shot...she is a very pretty girl, and I am quite certain that she gets noticed when she is there....

For a list of "must have/replace" firearms, I would include;

M1 Garand
LR-308
AR-15
Springfield 1884
Accurate bolt-action .308
Lever gun
.22 rifle (brand agnostic)
.22 pistol (revolver preferred)
.357 revolver (several good choices)
Glock 20
Glock 19
H&K USP Compact
1911

There are a few more on the list if there are remaining dollars....

I didn't think anyone would mention an FAL.

They went "prohibited" in Canada with a grandfather clause, that if you already
owned one you could keep it, and only if you owned one already you could buy
one from another owner.

So a hot Colonel in her mid 40's cannot buy an FAL and take it back to the
base with her.

Sorry lady, its prohibited.

This is how it went Wayne;

I as everyone else does, was agonizing over what to get.

The man behind the counter gave me the best piece of advice that applies to
guns, motor oil and I'll have to include cougars to stay "on topic".

For the cougar cubs I wanted low recoil yet enough gun.

The 260 Rem was off the shelves so the 6.5X55 T-3.
Tikka actions are all "long" unfortunately.

The .300 Win mag is a no-brainer'. Replaced a push-feed 70 XTR.

Next; you can believe, everyone thought the 325 WSM would go the way of
the Dodo-bird so A-bolts were at a give-away price in that caliber.
Two of those for my young-uns and a 70 Coyote Lite for moi.

Two calibers that are taking off in the north are .375 Ruger and .325 WSM.

The bullet diameter that is getting all the attention lately? .264"/6.5mm

I always wanted an over and under (still on topic), when a 686E was placed in
my hands, my eyes rolled back and all the blood rushed out of my brain.

The CZ? I couldn't believe the wood!! And the blood rushed out of my brain again.

I had a real person in mind in regards to the Colonel comment.

In Canada you have to be bi-lingual to get above LtCol.

Think The Generals Daughter except 5'11", cleans up pretty good too.

But I've heard when the make-up comes off and the "game-face" goes on............
Well, lets just say she is the boss.
