Exec Membership upgrade is $65 and gives a 2% rebate on purchases. You'd need to spend at least $3,250/yr to break even. Most Costco shoppers that I know visit the store at least every 2 weeks and spend over $150 each time.Wrong
2% with many exclusions. The incentive to buy more to earn your money back ...which doesn't get distributed until 10 months later, isn't a worthwhile proposition for many people. This must be a European option that's new. All of the Colorado Costcos have early business hours for executive membersIf you haven't heard....about (#)!* time. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/yourmon...co-returns-perk-help-shoppers-beat-lines.html
"Costco is introducing a new perk that will allow certain members to have their own private shopping hours.
Executive tier members will be able to shop for an hour earlier than regular Gold Star members from June 30.
The big box retailer will now allow its top tier members, who pay $130 a year, to shop from 9am to 10am on weekdays and Sundays, and 9am to 9:30am on Saturdays.
'Our Executive Members are our most loyal members, and we want to reward them for their commitment to Costco,' the company told employees in an email seen by Business Insider.
The retail giant said that the top tier members would also start receiving a $10 monthly credit for Instacart orders, as well as $150 worth of other benefits and savings on Costco services.
Around half of Costco shoppers have Executive level memberships, but they account for 73 percent of sales, according to the company.
The top level also offers a 2 percent rebate on all Costco purchases made that year up to a total of $750.
Costco hopes the new shopping hours will reduce traffic in car parks and lines at checkouts, which is a key customer complaint......."
Actually if you are talking about the Costco points or rewards you can get cash and do not have to spend it in their store. You obtain that refund around your anniversary date every year. I usually get about $350 cash back every year and my wife has her own card and she obtains about the same amount. I love Costco and usually buy almost all of my gasoline there and lots of meat, grocery items and other items. As an exective member I will take all the perks I can get and I never could understand why they don't open the store earlier.2% with many exclusions. It can be a worthwhile proposition if you know you'll be buying big ticket items in a given year...tires, TVs, major appliances.
Also, that $65 "refund" is not cash, it's essentially a coupon that has to be redeemed in a Costco warehouse.
People often lose sight of the basic business model...you are paying a warehouse club an annual fee for the opportunity to continue giving them your business.
It's an incentive to entice people to spend more. Beneficial to some but it's not the "no brainer" that many believe it is.
Most maybe but not my wife and I.If you use Costco at all, most people would benefit from the Exec membership upgrade.
We belong to all 3 but BJs and Sam's almost always have discounted $10-$20 memberships. Costco never does for existing members. Most maybe but not my wife and I.
We didn’t hit the 2% savings to make up for the additional cost of Executive membership, close but not quite. I wasn’t crazy about paying anymore to get into a store and buy their stuff anyway!
It’s not always the best price but fun going there.
Since it was our first year they refunded the difference of the additional cost of the executive membership and went back to the standard.
We also shop at Sam’s Club one mile away from Costco. Main reason we are members of both stores is for their selection of frozen and fresh seafood. Other than that is in club sale prices for stuff which is generally good quality
Also one mile away is a new BJs which we tried but first compare to the other two and will cancel that one.
Hours are in the OPIs it a new perk?
My recollection is that Business members could enter earlier in the past at the regular warehouses, as already noted above. Maybe even Exec members, as one of the benefits.
If they wanted to do folks a favor, they'd lower the membership cost. But that's how they make their profits, LOL.
Here's a question -- ever been to a Costco outside the U.S.? Memberships work internationally.
Sam's Club Plus also offers free shipping for online orders I believe.Hours are in the OP
Costco Executive members do not currently get in early
Sam’s Club DOES have early entry for its SAMS CLUB PLUS customers
Sam’s club membership fees are lower too
And we LOVE scanning and paying for our stuff with the Sam’s Club app on our phone. No lines no waiting, walk out the door.
We like both Costco and Sam’s for different reasons and use both. Costco has some higher end merchandise and overall high quality stuff yet Sam’s at times can compete better for certain items.
Ex. Wife picked up Tuna steaks yesterday in Sam’s at a great price and I got a really well spec’d Duracell battery for the boat at $99 (1000 mca and I think 760 cca) I replace boat batteries every 3 years as a general rule.
On the same day we shopped at Costco and bough a whole bunch of stuff there.

And family memberships. If you use Costco at all, most people would benefit from the Exec membership upgrade.
Same exact thing for us!Agreed. If you do spend a lot of cash there, it is a good deal. Wifey was given the sales pitch one time she went shopping, we took the plunge that year but in the end, ended up getting the additional annual fee back, because our 2% didn't add up to the higher cost of the executive fee. But we do like the basic membership.
Same. If you buy in bulk or are going to purchase expensive items (electronics) it makes sense. I was ignorant about them only accepting Visa cc before joining - I have a MC and Discover and wasn't going to take on a third for one store.I dropped my Costco membership years ago, as I just didn't want to deal with the crowds, and I never needed to buy Mayo in 1 gallon tubs.
Costco offers cash to redeem the coupon, at least around here. Yes, you get the coupon annually, but otherwise you get nothing.2% with many exclusions. Shopping at multiple stores is an expensive way to shop, especially if you value your time. For me personally, I shopped for myself and my parents as they got older. Costco was a lifesaver for both cost and time. Heck, a set of Michelins or whatever brand pays the $60 in install and warranty fees savings alone. Just my experience...
Of course it is an incentive to spend more, but that's up to the customer, right?
Not funny!Referring to me as a 'regular' member is a racist micro-aggression fueled by typical corporate greed! And I've had enough!
The rebate pays for my Exec membership and then some. I also use the Citibank Visa and get several hundred $$ back every year even though I'm buying less than I used to. Get most of my gas from Costco 5% back and 2% back from other gas purchases if on a trip. Get all my tires there(Michelin) because of free balance and rotation and repair.Actually if you are talking about the Costco points or rewards you can get cash and do not have to spend it in their store.
