The best way to approach this is to buy new OEM drums and brake shoes, '323.
He got a lot of miles (kilometers) out of the originals. That should tell you something.
When it comes to brakes, don't bother with aftemarket stuff or trying to "fix" things with turning or re-machining. It's not worth it, IMO.
