Corbin seats... ??

the seat on my Buell is murder after an hour. anyone have experience with Corbin? some people love them, some say they are too stiff. any other ideas?
 
Check out Bill Mayer Saddles. Supposed to be the best for comfort. (I have a Corbin, wanted to redo it with a Bill Mayer but I'd need an original seat pan, and cannot get one. Corbin is built on a custom seat pan, for my '83 R100RT.)
 
I put a Sargent seat on my FZ1. The original was painful. Surprisingly, the Sargent seat was much harder than the original seat, but ended up be much more comfortable. I stayed away from corbin at the time since a friend was having quality issues with them (6 years ago). Maybe they have that straightened out now.

Sargent on my FJR. Got it used on Fleabay... Better than original. Has the rear seat as well but that is really a standard profile for the pillion, just done in leather to match the winged front. I need one that places me closer to the tank due to my short arms. I have a very long torso so that helps but a custom-made one would be best.

I got it for a song, hence it's purchase.

Corbin is Corbin.

I have been ordering stuff from them for going on 2 decades for shops(all types) and personal use. Their customers service is often regarded as "not being what it used to be" by people that have been dealing with them for a long time. Fact is Corbin's CS has never been "OMG that was a great experience".

I have found that the best way to deal with them is to know exactly what you/customer wants make it crystal clear when you are making the order(pickup the phone and call). If you decide you are going call to change something after the initial order you can almost count on their being an issue from what I have witnessed by watching other parts guys.

I have probably ordered well over 1,000 seats/bags from them over the years(personal and for customers). I have only ever had two quality issues and they were both easily resolved with pics ready to be sent in a email just waiting for a address and a phone call to the rep I placed that order with to get the address and explain the issue and for the rep to see the pics while on the phone with them.

If you just want a production seat with no mods and the thought of dealing with Corbin in the event of a issue bothers you. Order from a local shop or online vendor that is easy to deal with like DennisKirk. They then act as the resolution center and in Denniskirks case, send out a different seat.

Everyone has something different they want in a seat. Some want pillowy soft others want form fitting for long rides, and others are just after looks. If you want a seat for long rides I will highly suggest finding a local who has one you can try, at least sit on or borrow for a ride. I have seen guys spend a couple grand finding the right seat. Corbin makes a firm seat, test one to make sure you like it and the fit.

That being said I have put 3hrs 2up in 1.5hr intervals on a buddy's '08 XB12 with a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady. I/we took the bike home so I could do tires and we rode it back, ~130 miles one way. Both the misses and I had no complaints about the seat.


Currently:
Corbin solo on the '76 FXE(HD)
Corbin Gunfighter and Lady on the '99 Fatboy
Corbin Front(modular) with a nosejob and a little extra shaved out of the bucket(1/4" or so) on the '11 FJR

Even though it works out that Corbins are currently on every bike in the stable, I have had seats from just about every manufacture and almost all have had something I liked about them.

I love mine.

But.

Everyone's caboose is different and before I discovered my Corbin I spent a lot of $$ on a Russell Day Long that lots of folks loved. To make along story short, after several thousand dollars of experimentation, I ended up with this Corbin on my BMW...

I had a Corbin on my BMW R1100r and could do 600 + mile days with no issues. I tried a Corbin on my Heritage Softail. Seat was fine, but with the forward controls, too much pressure on the seat bones, so it didn't work. I currently have a Corbin on my 2013 DL650, and due to winter here haven't been able to ride it, but have sat on it in the garage and it fits me the same as the Corbin did on the BMW so I don't anticipate any problems. Fit and finish is excellent and mounted on the bike with no issues.

The trick for me is that I need to have my feet under me, not forward. The Corbin seats are firm, but once you break it in, with the leather seat portion they are not cold or hot depending on the temperature. For me they are always just right for hot or cold weather riding.

Seats are a very personal item and its not always easy to get the one that works for you.

They are firm. That's not necessarily bad if you are supported in the right places. I've had 2 Corbins, both took a while to break in, but were comfortable after a while. My objection to Corbin is their customer service. They are eager to take the order and get your cash, then (in my experience) you'll wait forever for the job to be done, and you'll really be waiting if anything needs to be tweaked for you, or if something is amiss. They did make a good seat for my ST1300, but flat refused to reupholster the passenger seat in the same material.
 
I had a Corbin on an FJ1200. It was more comfortable than the stock seat.

I tried one on a CBR1100XX I had. I preferred the stock seat to the Corbin, on that bike.

I've ridden various models of bikes that had them, and it always seemed to be bike dependent as to whether the Corbin was an improvement over the stock seat.

I think the only way to know if it's right for you, is to try one. If it turns out you don't like it, sell it.
 
I removed the Corbin from my SV1000s. It was too hard, and despite the literature about it conforming to my posterior, it was simply not working right. I'm 185 pounds, and don't have any padding back there. So, a seat that conforms is a must. A brand new stock seat was a much better option for me.

I've never experienced a Corbin seat I liked. I'd much prefer a tall, thickly padded seat with just the right amount of give in it.
 
I had a Corbin on my Sportser, and loved it. Better support and more room. Based on that seat, I'd get another.
 
ive had 2 corbins that i bought and 1 on a bike i bought that had one on it. very good seat, cant say anyhting bad from my experience. value for the money, no! there are seats as good for less money.
 
A friend has a Corbin on his 05 dyna. I've got a mustang on my dyna.
The stock seat on my bike was kinda U shaped and even with my highway pegs tilted as far forward as possible I was still slightly cramped.
My mustang seat is shaped differently. Its more flat right to the back of the seat then a 90 degree cut which gains me a couple inches for my legs and now my Harley is like riding a lazy-boy down the highway.
Its firm but not a boulder yet soft but not too soft. It's the best seat I've ever sat in on any bike every in my life,now with that said my bro's Corbin comes in a pretty close second.
I love my mustang seat and I'm not looking back however his Corbin was 100 bucks cheaper than mine was so as far as value it's pretty good.
I'm not a wallet biker I ride my bike everywhere all summer long until the snow flies or being sensible takes over so I spend a lot of time in a seat.
I had no problems riding all day and consecutive all day rides making miles across the country using his Corbin and it held up great in the rain without the dye running and staining my pants.
All in all I found the Corbin my bro's got to be a great seat and the brand would be on my short list of must try seats if I buy another bike..........
My mustang though is just that extra little something over the top and on runs from the flats to the peaks and the valleys in between.
I've got 2 herniated disks. My mustang seat enabled me to ride again because it changed my sitting angle and created a corner that became the push point for my comfortable riding posture.
 
I have a Corbin on my Triumph. Excellent! Takes 500 miles to break in but it conforms to your butt. I can ride an extra 200 miles because of it.
