Cooper Discoverer Snow Claw LT?

Sounds like a different private label to the Arctic Claw. Any visual resemblance?

I ran a couple sets of Arctic Claws with satisfaction.

how much price we talking about double?

Also make sure the price quote for the arctic claws includes studs or its extra.
There is no doubt to me (my opinion)
the nokians will be significantly better for longer than the coopers.. and even return better MPG.. which over the life of the tires can offset some of the increased $$$

Now the difference between nokians and a better tire such as the general arctic LT is smaller.

The Nokians are about $370 each here
Currently the only place that has them anywhere near here has a sale of about $50 off each. But that probably won’t be extended into next month…when I actually have the money to buy them.

I was talking about the snow claw drom cooper, the the artic claw from general. However that also appears to be a mute point since after calling three places that sell cooper, I found out that nobody has them.🤦‍♂️

Most everything else is under $300

Might consider the general artic🤷‍♂️

Might your local tire dealer have a store branded credit card that would give you 0% financing for 6 months? You could get what you want now and work it out. I would think they would work with you in some manner to get the business this month.

Wait for the Black Friday sales.

What is the tire size anyway?

Yes, i'm on my second set of Cooper Discover Snow claws. Both studded on a 21 Tacoma 4x4 MT on a cheap set of factory Toyota Tacoma rims. Stock tire size is P265/65R17.

First set was P265/70R17. Tire pressures maintained at 32psi empty and 32psi front and between 35-40psi for the rear depending on load. They lasted around 60'000kms which included a February road trip from Northern Alberta to Watson Lake Yukon and back then from Northern Alberta to Nova Scotia and back along with maybe 10'000kms or towing and/or hauling. Overall I like them. They're very quiet and handle very well. They excel at highway driving. You don't hear the studs clicking on concrete etc. Downsides to them in my opinion is that is deep snow driving is mediocre and snow speed driving like around town sucks. They have a hard time grabbing traction from a stop whether on snow or ice. I suspect this is one of those "new generation" of studded tires where the rubber under the stud is softer to allow the stud to "retract" into the tire on hard surfaces to prevent damaging themselves and the hard surface(ie garage floors and city roads). As mentioned above though, high speed driving like on the highway I swear you're near invincible. I suspect that the centripetal force of the tires turning at high speeds allows the studs to actually grab the ice and not just sink into the tire on contact. Wet snow and standing water are also no match for these tires.

My second and current set on the same vehicle is LT235/80R17. I've only ran them for one winter and maybe 15'000kms so far. For my application, I don't think this size and load tire is appropriate but still for an honest review, i'm not a fan of this setup. I have marginally better take off ability and marginally better braking. Both only in a straight line. Turning is quite sketchy at speed and it feels hairy at highway speeds over 115kph. I've only hauled a load of wood with them last winter. With the extra weight they're okay. Still excited to understeer when cornering but truthfully with the weight from the wood, the understeer tends to come on at the upper edge of "sensible" driving. I'm not the kind of guy to drive around with sandbags or other ballast weight items but if you are and you driving beat around town then this setup might suit your needs. Tire pressures i've tried ranged between 32-50psi. I found 45psi to work the best for my application all around

I got the P265/70R17 for 140$ a piece in 2021... I worked at the dealership still so got employee pricing. The LT235/80R17 I got for 255$ each in 2023 which was with zero markup because I was still good buddies with the other shop I worked at after the dealership
