Yeah - right.

Fords of the 80s used to make F.O.R.D. stand for something.

That said.. OP, how is that HG checklist.

My family has owned plenty of 80's Ford's and never had the issue you are alluding to. Though I might add that those types of issues often are the result of owner neglect, like say, somebody never getting their timing belt changed.... Or spinning their tires until they explode and nuke the transmission, you know, gross negligence

But hey, dishing out advice, even though he had no clue about his own car is that much easier.

F.O.R.D. = "Found On the Road Dead."

Ford rather sucked in the 80s here in America, OVERKILL.

Their reputation preceeded them, you could say.

It is mostly a joke, but, nonetheless.. it was popular back in the 80s/90s. At least here in America, it was. No

intended, just sharing my experience.

Now, tell me how this has to do with a Volvo? Hmm? Explain.....

You act like I didn't have a whoooole lot of fun spinning those tires. !!!

Listen to how many times I say "Ooo, this is bad" in this one.

I had ONE car when the cooling system would NOT pressurize, and it turned out to be a failing water pump. Weeping from the weep hole.

OP, in addition to the HG checklist.. How is the water pump on that car?

To be short: I'm not watching the videos of you acting like a moron. It is a waste of my time.

My point was clear: You were laughing it up, tossing out hints at potential acronyms in an attempt to be witty while your own foolish actions clearly (and unfortunately for the rest of us, have been spelled out in painful, drawn-out detail on this forum) illustrate just how a vehicle ends up needing a tailgate warmer

"At least here in America", yeah, because you speak for the whole of the United States. You make Canada sound like Norway. Might want to check up on your geography there Champ.

BTW, I'm older then you and have actually owned a number of 80's vehicles. In fact I currently OWN an 80's vehicle.

Jokes making jokes. Let me know if you get that one. It is almost as funny as you giving people car advice.

my hg is fine. No white under the oil cap..no external leaks...nothen.. even multiple uoas showed no coolant intrusion..
Ok..I was sorta kidding about GM.. but the ones even new with 600 miles on them overheated when pushed. I drove a 2011 DMAX that set off warning lights and alarms at 250* when I had my foot stuffed in it pulling 25 round bales up an old Farm Market road that had to be 45* slope and a mile long.. I never made it to the top...my PSD with my pillar gauges and Edge insight that monitors coolant temp, never broke 225* pulling 26 bales...

K1ller, tool Easy fellas... Fords have treated me better than ANY other brand including Toyo & Honda..
On a lighter note, some crackheads broke into the apartment downstairs... I LOVE living in this SORRY town with these SORRY people.. If it wasn't for school, I'd never come here.

Is this the 1.9 or 2.0?

I thought the 1.9'shad some sort of by-pass valve in the t-stat housing that would fail and allow coolant to circulate around the stat? Maybe the 2.0's do too? Maybe something to investigate.

Either way, it sounds like you have at least attempted to verify the temp, still I'd get a infrared heat gun on it or read sensor data.

If it's still not coming up to temp, start with a new OE stat.

EDIT: after reading your first post again I now know it's a 2.0. Not sure if it has the bypass valve like the earlier 1.9's did but worth investigating. And if you haven't tried an OE stat, I'd do that too.

I'm pretty sure that it does have the bypass thing, and I was going to bring it up. It's a common problem and widely discussed on http://www.feoa.net

Look here:

It should look like this when it's warmed up:

That's what I was thinking of in my earlier post, but I couldn't remember if it was the housing. To me the sign that something is wrong is when OP said that the gauge goes to half way mark in stop and go traffic and moves to the cold side once the car gets going.
