Drove past a wedding yesterday, and Mrs. saw the two antique white wedding cars, and asked "What are they ?"

Which brought back memories of when I was in pre-school and early school in the early 70s, and my Dad was driving one of them.

I can still smell the leather and walnut interior, remember the passenger side suicide door go flying past me when Uncle Allan tried to adjust the door that he hadn't shut properly.

I used to ask Dad to driveby the new owner's place after he sold it...numbskull who bought it chopped the back off and made it a yte.

Dad had a Sunbeam Alpine, the 4 cylinder version of the "Tiger" (the tiger was the Ford small block V8)

It's a classic story of woe...

Dad shut the trunk on my fingers, I was about 5 or so. I did not say anything. My mouth popped open but nothing came out. Dad thought my fingers were broken. However, it really did not hurt. I guess young bones are somewhat flexible.

Mom made dad sell the car shortly thereafter. When dad turned 60, I convinced him to purchase a Miata as a replacement. We had plenty of fun with that.

My Dad had a new 59 and 61 T Bird. Later he had a new 62 Grand Prix with bucket seats and a tack on the console. He then bought a 63 Pontiac Bonniville with our first vinyl top. Every one of these cas was two colors. I really miss that.

My brother had an Alpine.

My dad had a 1958 Chevy PU and a 1963 Buick Skylark Wagon with the small aluminum block V8, the 200 HP version. Kinda cool for a small wagon at the time.

My dad had a 80 f150 ford sandbox. It had a factory hand painted image of a swamp at night with a full moon! It cost 20k in 1980!

'64 Imapla SS convertible, white with black top.
'66 SS 396 Malibu convertible, four speed, maroon with a black top.
Great old Chevrolets from the glory days, although the cars were then new.

I'm 29. When I was in grade school my dad had a 1979 MG midget.

It was his coolest car, but it had horrible reliability and wasn't drivable very much. My parents only had two cars, so the MG turned out to be a very regretted purchase.

It was brown. These are not pics of it, but it looked just like this minus the rollbar.

My dad had a silver porsche 356B or C, I can't recall exactly. I remember it had red leather seats, and the folding jump-seats in the back were a perfect fit for a 3 or 4 year old me.

It was just like this picture I found on the net, but in silver.

My dad had a tired '66 Pontiac Tempest coupe with about 110k miles on it(this was 1976, I was 13), and the transmission failed. It sat in the garage for about 3 months, then one of my dads co-workers totalled out a Bonneville. My dad bought it, and he and I pulled the 400 and turbo transmission out of the Bonneville, and stuffed it into the Tempest. Had a nice sounding custom dual exhaust, and front bucket seats and wheels that came from a junkyard Firebird.
He was going to give me the car when I turned 16, it got t-boned and totaled 2 months before that.:(

He also briefly had a Triumph TR-3, that I thought was really cool.

In my lifetime my dad didn't own a single "cool" car. But he did own a big window Impala, 60's Bug, and a Chevelle but they just standard drivers when he had those.

During my life, my dad owned:
1979 Toyota Corolla 5-speed
1987 Hyundai Excel
1992 Nissan Sentra
1995 Honda Accord
1997 Lexus ES300
2007 Pontiac G6

People paid attention to dad back when his Lexus ES300 was in good shape. I never really cared about the ES300, but it was cooler than the other cars on the list.

My mom had a 1947 Chevrolet Coupe. I thought it was such a neat car. When she died in 1968 my aunt had her power of attorney and signed it over to her husband She "knew" that mom would want him to have it. It was in mint condition. It wasn't cool but I liked it.

likewise. my Dad was real practical w/ his choice in cars. for the family car, it had to be a wagon to be able to tow the travel trailer; his favorite was a '77 chrysler T&C (last year of the big ones).
I liked a '69 chrysler we had earlier.
he had a real beat '63 biscayne 2 door for a while too, 3 speed stick.
he says his all-time favorite was a '65 malibu wagon, 283 w/ a 3 speed stick and overdrive, but I never saw that one.

1987 Chrysler Conquest, with the 2.6 in-line turbo 4, rear wheel drive. For its day, that thing was a beast! It would flat out move!
