Coolant leak - Transmission is out

I have a coolant leak in my '98 Ford Ranger 3.0 MT. I couldn't find it so I brought it to the shop... they are now dropping the transmission in hopes of finding it. The mechanic said it could be something as simple as a freeze plug once he gets in there?

Anyways, now that I have the transmission dropped what else would you take care of as PM so I don't have to go back there soon? The truck has 90k miles and is fine. Clutch? Main seal? Any suggestions?

How does the coolant leak anywhere that requires a dropped transmission. Heads maybe, hoses - right age for some to be old , freeze plug only if you just did coolant change.

Yeah, I don't know if it makes me feel better but I did find this: http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl553a.htm

I guess it is possible that they need to drop the trans to get to one of the plugs. My last coolant change was about 5 months ago. Are heads still a posibility or could he have seen that without pulling the trans? Hoses seemed good to my eyes, and to the mechanic's.

Any time a transmission is off I'd do the rear main seal and at least inspect the clutch and probably replace the disk and t/o bearing on a manual. If one freeze plug was leaking, I'd replace every one.
