I decide to change the coolant filter on one of my Ford SuperDuty trucks. This truck has a 7.3L PowerStroke with about 59,000 miles on it. The coolant filter was run for just over 4500 miles. I don't expect to see this volume of sand and gravel for more than another filter change, this is the second filter change and I got about the same amount of junk out of the first one.

I put a non charged filter on this time as when I tested the coolant I was on the high side of the SCA levels. I figured this would happen as the filter is meant for a much larger cooling system. I plan on swapping filter types at my 6th month change interval, that should keep the SCA levels right where they should be.

That's great info. Makes me wonder how water pumps last as long as they do. How often do you test your coolant?
Thanks

I've changed the Baldwin B5134 anually on my 03 Duramax and there is always some soft black scale and little sandy dirt in the filter.
