Cool. Oh those were the good old days and that was an extremely good oil. One of the better all around oils they use to make was a GT Performance 20W-40 but some bozo decided they did not need that weight.

Alwalys used that in my Suzuki's. The clutch always felt better and held up longer with the 20w-50 Pennzoil GT Performance. Question for Johnny, is it still made.

And that`s what is going in my engine, probably Friday,on my day off. I was trying to decide between the Pennzoil GT and RP,and I decided on the Pennzoil. O`Reilly can order the Pennzoil GT for you, that`s where I got mine and they only charged me a lil over $3 a quart for it (I bought a case). They were totally in awe when the counter guy brought it out from the back because none of them had ever heard of it before.

Taken by those cans with no weight on the front label. (Just the lid apparently-- or a magazine illustrator's artistic license?)

Also love the 'excitement' of tapping a can, which would grow old on me with that icky dusty spout oozing oil all over my garage in between uses.

When did that come out? Is the one still made just a rebadge of another oil from Shell/Pennzoil?

API SL, they have to be a new formula since then.

The GT 25W-50 Racing Oil has been out for years (at least since 1988) and it is API SL. Last I checked the zinc content was somewhere between 1200-1500 ppm. Before everyone started using synthetic oils it was the most popular oil to use in the World of Outlaws and there are still a few that use it. Also works great with cars using alcohol, methanol, and nitromethane fuels. When I lived in Texas I use to sell a boatload of it to the local H E L L S ANGEL chapter for their Harley's.

The regular GT Performance 20W-50 is API SM but not ILSAC approved.

aquariuscsm,

That oil says it's not designed to be used on the street - you worried about running it in your DD?

I did wonder about that and emailed Pennzoil and here`s what they told me:

Thank you for your interest in our product. Since thePennoil GT Racing Oil SAE 25W-50 was developed for use in racingengines it has the highest zinc and phosporous content of any of thePennzoil Motor Oils. The only problem this can create is if you havea catalytic converter on your vehicle and you are consuming any oil.The zinc and phosporous could pass around worn rings, burn with thegasoline and settle onto the catalyst i the converter. This couldover an extended period of time shorten the life of the catalyticconverter. If you do not have a catalytic converter or your engine isgood and tight (not burning any oil) this is of no concern. Happydriving!SincerelyProduct Technical Service, ah

Still a very popular oil with Central PA 410 Sprints. The PA Posse sent the World of Oulaws packing 2 weeks ago.
