I have used Castrol Syntec on three of my cars for many years now. I went with the product because Mobil 1 caused me serious problems. It cost my $800 to have a main seal replaced on one car almost immediately after putting in Mobil 1, and another started having lifter noise immediately after converting to Mobil 1. I went to Castrol Syntec and the lifter noise went away permanently (four years ago now). I don't have any leaks in the numerous cars I converted from conventional to Castrol Syntec. So I don't believe or understand the positive stories I hear about Mobil 1 as I had such bad experiences with it. My theory is that the Category III oil with Castrol formulation and additives is superior for engines with a few miles and years on them than Mobil 1 Category IV. I'm thinking that may be why the Syntec has never resulted in damaged seals in my cars. Now I'm thinking of trying Castrol Edge, but wondering if the move from Cat III to IV is just not a good idea for a high mileage vehicle? I don't need failed main seals.
