Conventional not Synthetic in VW Amarok

VW reliability issues is not a 'perception' as described in the article, it unfortunately is a fact of life. Although they did appear to be getting better.

This DSG oil switch will be closely monitored across the industry as all DSG/Twinclutch/TC-SST etc. manufacturers use a syn.

Within the framework of further quality monitoring in China and Southeast Asia, it has been discovered that, with vehicles with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DQ200), electric malfunctions could occur in the gearbox power supply if synthetic gearbox oil is used. This applies in particular if the vehicle is subject to a hot and humid climate, coupled with a high proportion of stop & go driving.

Studies have established that using of mineral oil will rectify this problem. To continue to ensure customer satisfaction amongst DSG, Volkswagen has decided to launch global voluntary campaign and to request all customers with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DQ200) filled with synthetic oil to visit a workshop for an oil exchange. The vehicle owners will be informed by Volkswagen accordingly.

Are these the dame DSG transmissions installed in GTI and other VW products in North America?

Slightly misleading title.

It is a dsg gearbox issue and not specific to one vehicle

I was led to believe there are two versions of the dsg box. A wet one and a dry one. Pretty much like a motorbike. Though that info was from an article in a magazine and i haven't looked into in detail as the dsg box is not the most reliable anyway.

Been going bang since 2009.

Cost of maintaince and rumored "issues" w/the DSG (all transmissions though have some "issues") narrowed my choice to the tradition auto transmission in my 12' Golf. (The Aisin 6-sp.) Happy I did, fine transmission/car so far....
