Continental recalling a small number of tires, 4 models, from a very narrow time frame in October 2024 . Issue was not enough sulfur keeping tread attached. Two of them (TerrainContact HT and CrossContact LX 25) have been recommended often here so may affect BITOG users. Check the link and check your DOT codes if you bought them after October '24.

Just another reason to register tires, appliances, lots of stuff. Strange recalls happen.

15 years ago I would not touch a continental tire. Every single model they had was rife with tire rack reviews reporting sidewall blowouts. We had an 08 escape with oem continentals that had a rear tire sidewall blow on the interstate, and my son had a civic with oem continentals more recently that developed a tennis-ball sized sidewall buldge around 2 years in. They used to have a lot of issues there.

But the newer ones for the most part seem to be excellent. I think in the mid-to-late teens they started reworking their designs. There are still reports of continental sidewall blowouts but they aren’t common at all. I don’t see the complaints on tire rack anymore. I’ve had 2 sets of the newer ones, demonstrating my opinion of them. However, and I think @The Critic suggested something similar, both sets developed minor but noted strange pulls to one side or the other after 2-3 years of use, well before the tread was worn. Very minor. The tires excelled in every other way as mild all-terrains.

It might be time for my standard blerb on tires that come OE on new vehicles from the factory.

They are designed to the OEM's specifications, so if they had poor traction or wore out fast, blame the car manufacturer, not the tire manufacturer.

Further, each OE tire is unique, even though the name on the sidewall is the same - meaning a tire from a Chevy is different than a tire of the same name from a Ford. Heck, they are even different within a given car manufacturer.

Yeah, this has been all over the internet because anything anti-EV is a big deal... and these tires are used on the Equinox EV. I haven't got around to checking the date codes on our 25 Equinox EV yet. With 21" wheels, the tires are spendy, if we can get free tires out of it, I'm all for it.
