My daughter needs tires for here 2024 Honda CRV hybrid Sport Touring at 40k miles. The OE tires are Continental Cross LX Sport which are around $1300. I can get the Continental LX 25 from Sams for about $960. I see the OE tires are designed for a "sporty handling". She is a mom with a 2 1/2 and 6 month child. Her "sporty" days are pretty much over :) . The LX25 is cheaper has better tread wear so I don't see the downside. I had these tires on my Q5 and was very happy. Am I missing anything by suggesting the LX25 over the OE tires?

Not in my world. Love my LX-25's Have 30K on them and they still balance perfectly and still have lots of tread left. Plus they did great in a big snow of 12+ inches. Going in for the next rotate and balance at DT soon.

No, you're not missing anything. You can also get excellent tires for far less money. They don't have to be Continental just because the car came with that brand. Have had that argument with SIL who for some crazy reason thinks you have to buy tires from the dealership or you'll crash.

Braking in a straight line, and avoidance maneuvers can be considering "sporty" or "safety" depending on your point of view.

Had a Mazda CX5 Turbo that I put Conti LX 25's on. They were head and heels better than the Toyo A36 that came on it. Loved the ride quality (used the Mazda for lots of traveling) without giving up much in the way of handling. Performed surprisingly well in the snow as well.

Is snow/ice a concern where she is? Is she by you in NJ? The LX25 used to get some decent winter ratings for an all season. I had some of the LX Sport and they were a safety hazard in snow. That was a long time ago so maybe compounds have been updated. Would a rated All Weather tire maybe be a better choice if she doesn’t do full winter tires.

Do you have a Continental Credit card? Continental has a $110 rebate through end of August (check models) and an extra $90 if you use their credit card with 6 months no interest. Check link in the sales/rebate thread. My son just put new Continental SecureContact AW on his wife’s Tucson. Discount Tire matched the best local price plus, extra for military/first responder and then the rebate. Sam’s in NJ would also include road hazard (NY doesn’t).

Many other choices that could be less money. Sam’s is also doing $100 of on 4 Pirelli P7 AS 3. If you have a PLUS membership, mounting is only $40. They also have some sales on Goodyear and others. The Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 gets good reviews in tests and Tire Rack liked them. I prefer tires I can cross rotate to even out wear (like the LX25). In the All Weather there are choices like that. Contintal SecureContact AW, Nokian WRG5, Bridgestone WeatherPeak and a couple others. Watch some of the Tire Rack test video’s.

TL-DR – No reason I would get LX Sport instead of LX 25 but there may be better options.

Oh and my local Honda Dealer beat the price of other local places on Continental VikingContact 8. They ordered them for me, mounted and road force balanced for my Pilot. Check price at parts counter/service, you may be surprised. Out the door I was less than local shops that could get Continental including Sam's.

The one thing not mentioned in this thread is that one of those tires is OE, which means it was designed to the vehicle manufacturer's specs. Usually that means better fuel economy, but worse tire wear, and sometimes worse traction.
