Constant stopping and starting hard on timing chains?

Well - if they are built overkill bcs allot of folks leave it active - I can only hope the overkill starter etc will last a long time since I defeat the function 😷
Yeah, I think this is one tech that is certainly questionable. I loathe the idea of my vehicle not running at a stop light etc. I don't own any but I've read some can't disable that feature on some vehicles? Sounds like you have a nice "Option". ;)

I’m normally in the Jeep - and with no lag time at stop signs it annoys me.
Yesterday - we are in the Tahoe and I did not realize it cut off at a light - the L84 is very smooth/quiet and the AC stayed cool …

Good to note!

Auto stop-start is very common now, even if it's not a hybrid, and timing chains are more common than belts now.

I'd be more worried about the starter than the timing chain. Repeated starts when the engine is warmed up shouldn't hurt the chain because there's already oil circulating

Some might, but usually they're timing gears. No chain needed.

Any SOHC or DOHC diesel will have a timing chain (or belt), and pushrods often have a chain too.

GM's Duramax has a timing chain even though it's OHV/pushrod.

Also, Subaru used to make gear-driven gasoline engines

The coefficient of static friction is higher than dynamic. Theoretically the forces are higher to get moving again.

How that compares to the forces at 6000rpm tho...
miniscule compared to start up shock- going from zero rpm to 750 or more in less than a second or so, imo

Hyundai says their starters are good for 50K starts in normal service, iirec
