That does add to the effective cost if something else wouldn't do that. My GTA with 170,000 miles uses zero oil with Mobil 1, so go figure. I probably should have experimented with something else by now, but I guess I was hypnotized by the power of synthetic oil.

After my new found love for the top rated BITOG additives... I wonder if an Auto-RX treatment or an LC20 treatment would reduce oil consumption?

I'd focus more on the auto trans and change ATF ,and filter and add Lubegard Red

ATF gets changed about every 3 years/~36,000 miles except for the van, which gets changed with ATF-4 every other year due to historical problems with Chrysler transmissions.

I ran some numbers for the van & Cavalier based on miles driven to see what the real cost differences would be. The cost to run the Mobil 1 Extended Performance would be the same as what I'm doing now if I extend the OCI out to only 5k. I personally don't feel comfortable going beyond that, especially with the van & short trips. Even switching to the TropArctic would save about $50 a year over what I'm doing now, which is only a bit more than $4 a month. Doesn't seem like a lot of savings to give up the benefits of a full synthetic.
