Most of my friends are from Louisiana and Texas, and they feel it's the dark side. I feel it's the other way around. Course, I work for the oil industry so I'm dark side no matter what...
I'll be a Control Systems Engineer. Basically, I'll help maintain existing control and safety systems, as well as help form the specifications for new systems and renovations of existing systems. I'll also do some troubleshooting and provide support for field technicians.
I currently do the same thing, but as a contractor. This will provide me with more room for growth.

As a native Texan who has spent time in California, if I had your opportunity (and no family obligations tying me to this state), I would be gone in a heartbeat! Have fun!

You will probably love it. But maybe not. Either way it will be a great life experience. In the end it is not a life sentance unless you want it to be. Living in the bay area will give you countless opportunities in your field, so job security is not really a big deal.
I've accepted their offer. I can't believe the relocation package. They basically handle the entire move, including marketing and selling the house, and helping find a new home and helping to pay for it.
I can't imagine not loving it. I love to ride, and the best roads in the world are right around the corner. I love to camp, but don't like to be hot and sweaty. There is so much to do in and near the bay area that it boggles the mind.

The only thing you may come to not like is the fact that the masses all like that as well, or some form of it. That's why I left Cali 20 years ago this month. Too many humans.
