I talked to and got this email from the guy named Mike at CP that answered my questions. Kendall Full Synthetic 5w-30 motor oil use to have the HT-06 certification and now it has no mention of that spec but mentions Dexos 1 instead. Why has the HT-06 certification been removed? Also, Conoco Phillips makes Trop Artic synthetic blend as well 76, is this the same as Kendall with Liquid Titanium or do they have completely different additive packages? Also, what base stock does Kendall use for their full synthetic? Thank you for your time. Answers: Our latest formulations do not boast the HT-06 spec because we cannot get formal approval from Honda for the slight formulation changes that we made. The reason for this is that Honda's testing facility was destroyed recently via natural disaster. Once their facility is back up, we fully expect to obtain formal approval with no problems. The Phillips products and the Kendall products are VERY similar. However, the Kendall line is the only one that we feature our "liquid titanium" additive in. A full synthetic motor oil can be composed of group III, IV, or V base stocks to be considered full synthetic.

When Kendall was free standing they were excellent about communication with customers. It's good to know that the C-P folks are still willing to respond. 30 years on Kendall and still a happy user.

I called up C-P Customer Service to ask about their full synthetic vs the full synthetic they make for Honda/Acura and was surprised when a real person answered the phone and took time to answer what questions he could (he couldn't divulge specific info about the Honda/Acura oils). He never seemed rushed or trying to hide/withhold info. He actually listened to my questions and helped me make a decision. I'm just a sucker for great customer service. I'm tired of talking to someone who is reading a script in broken English where they never see cold temps and could care less about me or what my problem is. I just purchased 2 cases of their oil.

I didn't ask him...

I was wondering about this. Only their Ultimate met the HT-06 spec. Then the regular synthetic 5W-30 met this spec. Then it was gone off of their PDS. I like CP more and more these days. They are honest and don't try to hide behind smoke and mirrors.

JFI, initially HTO-06 (HTO = High Temperature Operation) was a joint Honda/Exxon-Mobil designation for Mobil 1's 5W-30 oil developed for use in Acura's turbocharged RDX.

That's a great tidbit to know! Thanks

Every oil company that I have ever called or e-mailed(except Castrol), was very informative within their certain limits(not discussing proprietary chemicals or process). Always friendly(except Castrol) when speeking with the tech/engineer over the phone or by e-mail. Even offering to send me extra information/literature via e-mail, FAX or USPS(except Castrol)

Pretty bummed...Just called Kendall's Customer Service and talked with Mike and he would not tell me if they used Group III or Group IV Base Stocks in making their Fully Synthetic Titanium oil. Is that proprietary info?

Willing to bet that he did not even know what you meant LOL smile

Most formulations are considered proprietary from what I understand. Keep in mind that there's a lot of R&D in developing lubricants. Disclosing information learned would be a huge financial loss in those monies spent.

Makes sense. Only one vehicle calls for this spec, and it's not a big seller. The only thing interesting about the HTO-06 spec was how demanding it was and how all the other oils failed it. And that was Honda doing the testing...
