Alright Sled Driver, I read a little bit of your link, and realized all of the things running at start up. Maybe a dumb idea, but I unchecked all items at start up, and this alone sped up the computer significantly.

If I am just surfing the internet, what do I really need at start up?

Also, I tried to uncheck google at start up, when I dont even use the google toolbar, but it tells me to log in at the admin level to delete

You can. Copy the app name and do a search on it. If you really don't need anything on the machine, then save your browser bookmarks and reinstall XP via the guide.

That's your guide you're on the right path. You turned all of it off and the machine still worked. Good info for you to know. Now you know what's been bogging your machine down.

You have to be careful about granting permission. You'll either have to log in as the admin or grant your user account admin priviledges. Do a search on it. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies.
I had the same slow response time when using stopzilla.
For some reason, the computer always ran slow.
Now, I use malwarebytes free and based on this forum microsoft security essentials for anti-virus.

Is this enough?

No,you need a image backup in case things get really bad.

Could you provide a dxdiag report? Press the Windows key + R, type dxdiag, press Enter, click Save all information... and post the contents of the saved log here within Code tags. This will allow me to compile a list of the latest drivers for your laptop.

How do I post it within code tages.
Its pretty long.
