Comparing four Michelin tires

I have the PSAS4's on my BMW for 3 seasons, and General Arctic snows for winter. I do like the AS4's, but they were quite a challenge to get balanced correctly by a few different tire shops, and the shops indicated they see it a lot with those particular tires.

I've been researching the CrossClimate 2's and have read hundreds of reviews. Half the reviews say they're quiet with no mpg hit, the other half say they're loud and they took a huge mpg hit. Everyone seems to agree that they have great traction. I'm not sure who to believe so I might have to take a leap of faith.

If you do let us know. I might need these by winter of 23/24

1/2 say none and 1/2 say loud/big mpg hit? So maybe just conclude (1/2 way ;)) with a "not so insignificant" drop in MPG?

Perhaps this can be mitigated somewhat by adjusting tire pressures. In my car, despite the placard's recommendation of 33 PSI for all four tires, my manual allows for an additional 4 PSI if it is known that ambient temps will drop.

I think that's the elephant in the room re the CC2+ that nobody is talking about. Quite a significant hit to MPGs (or L/100 km).
I did read about the mileage hit before purchasing tires-wal mart. Com is really a way good place to find diamonds in the rough-these tires cross climate-2 were 120 plus 120 rebate-I am a recent Prius buyer got this one used-and thought maybe Prius owners complaining about the mileage of cross climate-2 tires were being histrionic…. But it really has made a negative difference with fuel mileage-I had the pilot sport all season on a previous vehicle VW TDI-and made minimal difference compared to previous more fuel efficient tire… just filled up gas now-I usually just drive regularly but figured would drive more conservatively and with weather being 60 out today-and similar this week when just filled it I Got barely 33 mpg…previous tires Nokian Etyre 2.0 got consistently around solid 37-38… and when first got car for same on some no name brand lexani think it was… I drive a lot too and while just purchased that’s a couple months ago I have easily over ten thousand miles on them… drive about 4000 a month and have ticked the air pressure up a bit to 40-front 38 back with recommended pressure 34 32 was getting like 31 mpg…. Almost hoping for snow so can justify mileage hit and with a Prius V wagon-I really like the vehicle but getting somewhat relatively pedestrian mileage takes some of the appeal away from the car as was easier to deal with merging in highways judiciously when was getting 37-38 mpg these cross climate-2 have negatively impacted gas mileage more than any tire have owned and really they aren’t performance tires in that while they may corner a little better-I can feel their limitations and they aren’t the best in the wet weather either… I think a lot of people including me-think the tread design is really cool-and that was the one pleasant surprise-they see quiet-remember driving a version of pilot all seasons before-not the ones mentioned earlier-and they had a directional design and ended up exchanging in thirty days because of tread noise-these sound fine…
I really think the Primacy MXV4 were just so excellent-I don’t think Michelin has made a better tire in that category and they are at least a 15 year old design of not more…

I hear ya. Yeah picking tires is so tricky and it's hard to find the exact tires to fit one's needs. It's also tough as if you're unsatisfied, you're stuck with a pretty hefty purchase (unless you can enact those 100% satisfaction guarantee clauses that tire manufactures will find all sorts of excuses to get out of). I've been on the wrong end of tire purchases a-plenty myself.

I can say that I don't notice them being that loud on 2 cars. As for MPG, I haven't really paid attention yet.

I likely wouldn’t have gotten the tires without that really good deal. I do tend to over-research purchases and tires have been at the top of the list with regards to that…I have also been a tire “snob” in that have mainly stuck to name brand tires when doing research. I will say that I bought an older 2000 Lexus a few years back that came with Radar Dimax AS tires on them… I drive a lot so figured would just drive them without rotating until they just wore down… I was surprised they kept decent tread for over thirty thousand miles when I drove them and according to the car max the guy before me put them on about 35-40 thousand miles prior… They handled well in wet and dry-not best in snow but honestly if you told me they were a name brand tire-even Michelin-I would have believed it… Mentioned in a previous post that Walmart. Com is really an excellent place to buy tires… they give you the option to install at store for most part… but previously they offered that option on Al l tires… Like I ended up buying the Radar tires for my Lexus car and they installed on them and bought Nokian tires last year for 54 dollars and they installed them … but the cross climate 2 tires needed to be delivered at my house… and got them like three months ago. The website has occasional excellent discounts on name brand tires like my wife has 2015 accord and saw they had primacy MXV4 tires for 176 which compared to Tirerack at 236-that was a relative bargain and could get them installed there… it can be hit or miss with installation but overall has been fine-they don’t do alignments however… but installation price is about half of what it is at most tire places.

Of NOTE-it is better to put the tire size when you look for tires on wal mart . Com because when you put in your car like 2012 Prius V-Wal mart restricts you to speed rating at or above your vehicle and for whatever reason on God’s green earth-the Prius came with V rated tires and would not have seen the deal for Cross Climate-2 H rated tires which were 120 instead of like 200 regular price and 200 for the V rated tires… have to love lawyers… Tirerack is better at that with options but haven’t seen like great deals on Tirerack for many years… view them as a baseline for tire cost and go from there.
