Something like this would be great if it could fit under my car. Have you ever seen a super low profile version?

What I do is first lift with a floor jack, then insert these like regular jack stands.

Once car is on 4, I can slowly lift corner by corner, until I get the car to the height I want and check to see that it is reasonably level for what I want to do. Excellent if you don't have a lift available. You can take all the tires off to rotate and/or do brake & suspension work. Levels the car so that you can do drain & fills of the transmission. It gives you those extra few inches that you need to crawl under, move around, and use longer leverage tools. Most important is that you are safe.

Expensive, yes. A bottle jack could be bought for about $20. A set of jack stands could be about $40. No matter how you do the math, it's worth every penny because I did not get hurt.
