Comments I don't understand: "My car loves it"

I notice everything. I do have a very zen-like mechanical background. All my cars had oils they liked and disliked.

And, it had little to do with new vs old oil. Moly amount, viscosity, and type of oil were definitely noticeable.

Engine noise, harmonics, sounds, vibrations, MPG, HP, general all-around feeling.... were different among the oils.

My little lady responds the same way. She breaks down when I bring home shopping bags full of groceries. When I forget the supermarket trip and instead make reservations out, she runs so much better. But to me, its the same food.

I agree, my last OCI I got a small air bubble when pouring in the last quart.. I could tell when I started the engine as it had a slight blurp-dagosh-whooooshh uh to it, and while driving down the road I could feel every 47 seconds or so that the oil pump caught that air bubble... which of course everyone knows this makes a small loss in the oils ability to flow at low/mid temps ( yes it was synthetic) so I added some MMO and upon pouring in I heard a burpppp and a slight pop from the exhaust.. along with an odor.. the engine was not running than goodness, and once again I can feel the difference in power, acceleration is much much better, and response is better as well, economy up 3.9756 MPG, and no more air bubble floating around in my engine.. Thank goodness I was running synthetic (the air bubble was also synthetic) if I had not had all that extra protection, and I was also able to extend my OCI out long enough to get the bubble out...

WOW, finally a post that makes sense...

I notice that my engines seem to run quieter on cheaper store brand conventional oil than they do on expensiven syn's. And the engines definatly like summer better than winter. I also notice that my engines are smoother/quieter when the relative humidity is above 60%+. And I sleep a bit better knowing that I have a good name brand oil in the engine though! And I don't notice anymore power or throttle responce in the cooler tempuratures when there is cooler/more dence air entering the intake. ATMOF, I feel(SOP) just the opposite. The engines feel stronger on hotter days like above 80 deg F.

my truck runs smoother and quieter with a 5w30 vs a 5/20.
as far as performance its about the same as i can tell
gas mileage is the same also.

but to this day my truck has never requested a certain oil brand

but it does like exxon gas better than others. more mpgs and less pings

In all honesty I fell exactly the same for the most part. I don't try oil after oil until I think I've found the one my truck likes. I simply get the cheapest syn available at the time and all is well.

With that being said. It just so happened that Q Horsepower 5w30 was on clearance for $2 a quart or somewhere around there so I stocked up on it, now we're talking Quaker State Q Horsepower not Quaker State Ultimate Durability so there was no advertising that got my attention and made me hope I would notice a difference.

When I changed the oil it started up like nothing had changed same as usual, however whenever I started on the throttle to roll onto the main street in front of my house there was definitely an increased smoothness coming from the engine, it wasn't as raspy, I've got a cat-back and usually I can here the engine at WOT but with the Quaker State Q Horsepower I can honestly tell you that the amount of noise I could here decreased.

Does this mean that I only buy Quaker State Q Horsepower or Quaker State Ultimate Durability now? Absolutely not, but it was an experience that I felt like sharing.

no disrespect intended, but just another person buying sopus based on price, id bought it too, but im seeing a trend here

My engine is definately different on different oils. However, the idea that the engine likes or dislikes based entirely on subjectives is silly.

Viscosity would make a car 'love it'.
Too thick will make a lot of drag.

And how about ZDDP rich oils for engines that need it for aggressive valve trains? The wrong oil can flatten a cam fast.

How about oils that cause seepage and leaking vs. others that don't ? They are not supposed to, but synthetics can and do weep vs. dinos.

All sorts of reasons why an engine would 'like' an oil.
But granted, many people throw out the term because off feelings, not facts.

It ain't silly. It's personification. "My car likes that oil" is simply an example of grammatical personification. Ms. Skinner taught us that in English class.

Same here, the argument that new oils just feel and sound better than old oils falls flat when some new oils have been noted to provide a degradation in NVH.

40Delux: you asked what engine in my Ranger. its a 4.0....one noisey SOB. So much so, a buddy dubbed it "Old Growley" . LOL.

You obviously are not "in tune" with what your car prefers. A true BITOGer contains an extra sense that allows him or her to know what oil their car prefers based solely on feel, sound, and performance.

My caprice has a vary loud tick(mostly at idle) when using syn or dino Xw40 oils, but shuts right up when I use any brand 5w30. Don't believe me, come over and provide the oil and I'll show you.

I've never been able to notice a difference between various brands of syn, conv, or blend oils, though.

The biggest di fferance that I notice between differnt brands is engine operation. Trust me I can tell the differance the way my 5.4 Triton runs on QS vs PZ/MC. But I have not tried anything differnt.

If I have found an oil that my engine "likes" it means this oil doesn't exhibit a negative of an oil used before. MC5K works great in my daughter's Accord which consumes some other oils, my carbed ski boat 351W turns it to water. This engine is better for HDEO. My 2.7 Chrysler has hot idle oil light flicker with many oils, such as Edge, Schaeffer 7K, but doesn't with GC.

FZ1........trouble is, Old Growley won't tell me what oil he likes! Growled on Amsoil, growled on M1, growled on Mob 5000, so I said to heck with him and put in ST last time. His growls haven't changed. Oh well, being a 2000 model, with only 43K, he's prob growling form sitting so long. LOL
