If you have to ask, don’t ask…
Do you, or have you ever, train in a combat sport, and if so, was it a striking or grappling (or both) sport? And what was it?

Martial Arts absolutely can count for the topic however there must to be live sparring or a competition aspect in order to count. If you never tested your physicality, skills, and will against a resisting opponent then I’m not calling it a combat sport.

Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, MMA, etc.

It was part of our LEO training, taught by one of the nicest people on the planet that whipped my butt more times than I can count.

His 15yo (at the time) daughter came in to grapple with us and whipped the vast majority of the class as well. That was fun to watch. Fifteen years old, maybe 100 pounds soaking wet, just murdering full-grown men. Great fun. Glad I did it when I did, edging near 50 it seems like much less fun.

Part self defense but more for fun. I am in fit and lean shape (158lb 5'9" about 15-20 BMI) and hit the gym every other day.

Also to learn it and indirectly teach my daughters who would soon be teenagers.
Cool. Nothing wrong with that. If you don’t mind some unsolicited advice I would look into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for female self defense as well. Most of the positions are ones women would find themselves in if attacked. Mount, side control, closed guard, etc. I don’t think a 130lbs woman attempting to trade blows with a 200lbs man is a great game plan. Just my opinion.

I know people like this. Silent assassins. They don’t look like much but will dump you on the ground and snatch up your neck in a second.

Yep, and be sneaky about it. But seriously, he is one of the nicest people I've ever known. Do anything for you, never an unkind word about anyone. One of the ones you'd really wish was still doing the job, not only was he great at it, but truly has people's best interest at heart.

I think he was in his mid 50s when I went through and trying to grab him was like grabbing a steel cable.

And he can kill you in bout 5 seconds with his hands, so there's that.

For sure. Most real deal tough guys are super nice people. Nothing to prove.
