Hello,

I had my 98' 5.7 GSi rebuilt and I will be getting it back in the boat soon, but winter has started and I will be running it in temps above 0 degs-40's to break it in. What oil viscosity should I use? Manual says 20w/20 for temps 0-32 F and 30w for 32 degs and above.
Can't find any 20w/20 so now what?
TIA

Cheap 5-10W40 ?

Glad to help,

I thought you were worried about low temperatures. That manual states that it is for outside N. America.

Other sites recommends 15W40.

Thanks T,

well I am looking for advise on what viscosity to use for the break-in period, which it might end up being in temps from 0 F to 40 F. The workshop manual shows 20w/20 for those temps typically and 30w above 32F. I normally run 30w in it, but wasn't sure it that's a good viscosity for breaking-in the engine in those temps.
