CM Filters - Second to none?

Looks like waste of money to me. Purolator Pure One filters are the top rated "over the counter" units, even better than the Mobil 1 with a synthetic element. The flow rates are to API specs - who could want more?

I havent seen an objective measure of them like other filters have in Grease is the word's study of filters.

They look good, but they are expensive.

I heard about them almost 10 years ago and have always wanted to get one, but could never bring myself to spend the money. I suspect they are excellent, but are more for the racing enthusiast where flow rate and burst strength are the primary concerns.

I'm running the Canton Mecca filters on two of my vehicles and find them to be excellent! Currently, I change the element at 5,000 miles, but am going to change to 10,000 mile intervals soon (after I'm off warranty). I'm wasting to many elements!

I have been using one on a 2001 Audi TT (225) for a little over a year and a half. I started doing UOA to see if it had any effect. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, it has taken a long time to get any numbers. I ran a baseline in 2002-2003 using mobil 1 (5w30) and an OEM filter. The total for insolubles was .5% in 7,974 miles (no makeup oil). I finally got a comparable run this month. Using Redline (5w30) and the Canton spin-on filter insolubles were .3% in 8,234 miles (no makeup oil). Both tests were done by Blackstone.

Me.

I want to approach the filtration quality of a bypass unit without having to install one. I want a filter that does not require a relief valve to keep flowing under challenging conditions. Neither PureOne nor M1 fit the bill. Yeah, they're pricey, but if they perform as advertised, the CMs are superior.

Subject: oil filter

I am interested in your oil filters and would like to know if you have any testing data concerning performance.
[SAE-single pass, multiple pass, beta ratio etc.]

It looks like you have a great product
If you could email the above info it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for the ultimate oil filter[Flow &filtering capabilities] and presently using purolator's [pure one] in a stock street application.

Hope to hear from you soon concerning the above

Responce:

We don't have any test results on hand. The last testing that was done was probably over 15+ years ago. We have tested the flow vs. restriction against other spin on filters.

Thank you,

Good filters, have used and recommeded their use in both racing and street applications. Not every engine needs them. As always let analysis and observation be your guide.

So, what are you trying to say? I'm actually considering buying one of their systems, so I'd like to collect as much feedback as I can. If CMs do deliver proper flow and pressure with 8 micron filtration, then they really are outstanding products.

Sorry ...I reversed those notations. My freind, who builds stock car and drag engines (and just got back from Indy for some event last week), doesn't appear to be too concerned about filtration ..only flow (dry sumps, swept "els", end-tanked coolers, etc.). He's refreshing them bi or tri-annually. You don't see Jegs or Summit having whole pages dedicated to ultra fine filtration. I could see this being popular with the Euro ir-- err alloy that was a daily driver ..that also hits the track on a regular basis.

Looks like a fine product ..just not cheap.

It appears that they compensate for the finer filtration with a longer can (a PH16 size is 1.25 longer).

I think when they say "down to 8um", they are at the 50% rate of capture, which is pretty good compared to our $3 filters.

It would be interesting to see someone have some comparitve UOAs on the same oil over the same OCI (hopefully the same oil for several previous OCIs) to see if any numbers change.

What are you putting this in ek?? Are you getting the spin-on replacement or the remote (very pretty piece of hardware).

I guess if I desired finer filtration and elected, for some reason, not to use a bypass setup (or something like a Trasco), this would be a decent choice in a nice package.

I'm into fine filtration as you are aware (the MEGA filter) ..but in my case I'm not attempting to do anything for the engine per se`(1992 3.0 Mitsu with 165k

) . That's is, I'm doing it for the apparent effects (or lack there of) on oil and the data that it may yield.

I'm researching the possibility of using a CM filter on my Infiniti G35 (which has the VQ35 V-6 engine). I like the 8 micron filtration, but I'm wondering where the %-age efficiency figure is. I mean, even a coarse filter is going to catch some particles down in the single digit range. Anyone seen any efficiency ratings on the CM products?
