I'd say shop is pretty close. Would want at least solid eye contact verbal commitment as to their interpetation of warrany.

Flywheel should be ground, instead of turned. Check how much additional for new replacement.

OK, I'm ready to get this clutch job done now. I called the Honda dealer. They wanted $340 for a clutch kit (clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing). And $289 for a new flywheel. These prices seem awfully high. Can you guys recommend some other good brands, and where to buy them?

I don't want to replace the flywheel if I can avoid it because I doubt I will have this car for more than another year or two. How can you tell its condition by visual inspection? What about 'another Todd's suggestion to scuff up the surface with some sandpaper, etc.?

If you take the flywheel to a machine shop to get machined, MAKE SURE they look up the specs for it!! I have had a few imports apart that have a very small .010 step on the surface, and if they just cut if flat, guess what? Improper engagement from improper spacing of the pressure plate, meaning your taking it back apart.

So have you been driving it with the clutch slipping for 5 months since your original post??

Yeah, but actually it's been slipping for over a year. I'm real careful not to push it hard enough to make it start slipping. Why?

Just curious, I thought once a clutch was slipping, then it was only a matter of a few weeks before it wouldnt move the car at all.

It depends how bad the plate is worn. If you're careful and don't punch it you can still drive awhile. I might have been driving this for 2 years like this now that I think about it. But I only drive about 5K/year.
